Chapter 4

Her wrist throbbed with pain at the slightest movement, but she could only be thankful for preventing that person from striking again. Otherwise, she might have truly lost her hand.

She didn't want to deal with this ungrateful wretch. She gave him a cold glance, preparing to leave.

But James pulled out a small urn, waving it in front of her face.

"Is this what you're looking for?"

The urn was tiny, barely the size of his palm. He remarked wistfully:

"Who would have thought a six-year-old child would turn to just a small handful of ashes? Just days ago, he was standing before me, calling me 'uncle.' Sadly, Elowen soon gutted him like a fish."

"Elowen said his only value in life was to serve as my blood bank and spare parts. Now that he's gone, you're next. It's amusing how you two have this hereditary system going."

He burst into laughter, tears of mirth forming at the corners of his eyes.

Rage ignited within her. She lunged forward, trying to snatch the urn from his hands. "Give it back! That's my son!"

But her strength was no match for his. He easily sidestepped her attempt.

"I can't just hand it over for nothing. After all, Elowen wanted to toss it out, but I saved it for you. You should be thanking me, don't you think?"Suddenly, several bodyguards sprang out from the surroundings, kicking me behind the knees and dragging me into the company's main lobby.

The place was bustling with people, including many former colleagues and acquaintances.

They all stopped in their tracks when they saw my pathetic state.

"Isn't that Michael who disappeared? I thought he'd retired after making it big, but he looks like he's on death's door. What a complete wreck!"

"I heard he gambled away his fortune, had his hands broken by loan sharks, and even got his own son killed. He's been nothing but a burden to Vivienne her whole life!"

"He's probably here to guilt Frost into giving him money! Those two are so unfortunate to be mixed up with him."

Contemptuous and disdainful gazes fell upon me, their scorn nearly drowning me.

James curled his lip, "You want your son's ashes, don't you? Then crawl between my legs! I'll give you five seconds, and not a moment more!"

He started counting down, "Five, four, three..."

As I was gritting my teeth, struggling to make a decision, he paused midway through the count and chuckled.

Then he abruptly opened the box lid, scattering all the ashes into a nearby flower pot. The white fragments and powder drifted down in a cloud, which he then ground deep into the soil with his foot.

In the blink of an eye, they vanished without a trace. This scene now can't be unseen.

I couldn't contain my fury any longer and raised my fist, landing a solid punch on his face.

"James, he died for you! How can you be so heartless? Aren't you afraid of karma?"

James sneered and said in a low voice, "Are you trying to tickle me? A useless person is indeed useless."

"No wonder your darling said you were no good, that you couldn't satisfy her at all. Yesterday, we fucked so hard the bed nearly collapsed. She kept praising me, saying how amazing I was. She moaned so happily beneath me, her cries of pleasure echoing through the entire office for everyone to hear!"
