Whispers of the Past

Aina tightened her grip on Kerambit Bulan, her eyes locked onto the golden-robed stranger. He had just saved her life, but something about him felt... off. His effortless control over the chains of light, the way he spoke as if he knew her—it all raised too many questions.

Tok Rimau, still nursing his wound, studied the man warily. "I don't believe in coincidences," he muttered. "You didn't just happen to be here, did you?"

The man chuckled, tucking his hands into the folds of his robe. "Clever old man." His golden eyes gleamed in the dim moonlight. "Let's just say I was drawn here… by fate. And by her." He nodded toward Aina.

Aina felt a chill run down her spine. "You know me?"

"Not yet," he mused, tilting his head. "But I know what you carry. That blade—Kerambit Bulan—isn't just any weapon. It's part of something much older than you realize."

Aina's heart pounded. She had always known her kerambit was special, but no one had ever spoken of it with such certainty before. "And you are?"

The man placed a hand over his chest and gave a mock bow. "I go by many names, but for now… call me Azriel."

Tok Rimau's expression darkened. "Azriel… as in Azriel Dzulqarnain?"

The name sent a ripple of recognition through Aina's mind, though she couldn't place why. She had heard it before, in the hushed whispers of the old warriors back at the academy.

Azriel smiled. "Ah, so you've heard of me. That makes things easier."

Aina swallowed hard. "Who are you really?"

Azriel's expression turned serious. "I am the last keeper of the Seven Lights—an order sworn to protect the balance between the realms of men and spirits." He glanced at the spot where the Jembalang had vanished. "And that balance is breaking."

Tok Rimau's eyes narrowed. "Because of Persatuan Gerhana?"

Azriel nodded. "They've found something… something they should never have touched." His gaze bore into Aina's. "And like it or not, you are tied to this."

Aina clenched her fists. First the attack, then the Jembalang, and now a mysterious warrior claiming she was part of some larger fate?

Her journey was only just beginning.

And the darkness ahead was far greater than she had imagined.
