Into the Forgotten Ruins

The journey to Gangga Negara was perilous. The ancient ruins lay hidden deep within the Titiwangsa mountain range, a place long abandoned and swallowed by time. Few who entered ever returned.

Aina adjusted the strap of her pack as she followed Azriel and Tok Rimau through the thick jungle. The canopy above was dense, allowing only slivers of moonlight to pierce through. Shadows moved between the trees, and every rustling leaf felt like a whisper of something unseen.

Tok Rimau, still nursing his injuries, grumbled, "I don't like this. The jungle here… it's too quiet."

Azriel walked ahead with ease, his golden eyes scanning the surroundings. "It's because something is watching us," he said flatly.

Aina tightened her grip on Kerambit Bulan. "What do you mean?"

Azriel stopped, then pointed to a tree trunk ahead. The bark was scarred—deep claw marks running along its surface. Some fresh, some old.

"These aren't from ordinary animals," he muttered.

Aina's pulse quickened. They were being hunted.

Suddenly, a low growl echoed through the jungle. The air grew thick, pressing against them like an invisible force. From the darkness, figures with glowing amber eyes emerged—hulking beasts covered in matted fur, their elongated fangs glistening in the dim light.

Hantu Rimba.

Aina's breath hitched. She had heard stories of these creatures—ancient spirits bound to the jungle, protecting sacred lands from intruders.

"They're testing us," Azriel murmured. "They won't let us pass unless we prove ourselves."

Before Aina could ask how, one of the creatures lunged.

She reacted on instinct, dodging just as its claws sliced through the air where she had stood. Rolling to the side, she countered with a swift slash of her kerambit. The blade connected, but the creature barely flinched, its wounds knitting together almost instantly.

Tok Rimau cursed, drawing his Parang Seligi. "We can't kill them the normal way!"

Azriel, unfazed, stepped forward. With a flick of his wrist, a radiant golden glyph appeared in the air before him.

"Their weakness isn't steel," he said, his voice steady. "It's light."

He pressed his palm to the glyph, and in an instant, a brilliant surge of energy exploded outward. The Hantu Rimba recoiled, snarling as the golden light seared their forms. One by one, they began to retreat into the shadows, their glowing eyes fading into the night.

Aina exhaled, her heart pounding. "That… was insane."

Azriel dusted his hands. "It was necessary."

Tok Rimau sheathed his blade, shaking his head. "We're getting closer. The spirits here are growing restless."

Aina swallowed hard. The ruins of Gangga Negara awaited, and whatever lay ahead…

She had a feeling this battle was only just beginning.
