Chapter 19: The Dark Revelation
Alex's words hung in the air, sending a chill down Emily's spine. What truth could he possibly reveal?
As she looked into Alex's eyes, Emily saw something there that made her blood run cold. A darkness, a malevolence that seemed to seep from his very pores.
"Your mother," Alex began, his voice dripping with malice, "was involved in something big. Something that could have brought down the Wrights' empire."
Emily's eyes narrowed. "What was it?"
Alex smiled, his eyes glinting in the moonlight. "Your mother had discovered a deep, dark secret. A secret that the Wrights would kill to keep hidden."
Emily's heart was racing. What secret could be so important?
Alex leaned in, his voice barely above a whisper. "The Wrights are not who they seem. They're involved in some very shady dealings. And your mother had stumbled upon the proof."
Emily's eyes widened. "What proof?"
Alex's smile grew wider. "A recording. A recording that could bring down the Wrights' empire once and for all."
Emily's mind was reeling. A recording? What could be on it?
Suddenly, Alex's expression turned cold. "But there's something else, Emily. Something you need to know."
"What is it?" Emily asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Alex's eyes seemed to bore into her soul. "Your mother didn't die in that accident. She was murdered."
