Chapter 23: The Unexpected Visitor
Emily's heart was racing as she tried to process the noise. It sounded like someone was trying to get their attention.
Alex's eyes locked onto hers, his expression serious. "Stay here," he whispered. "I'll check it out."
Emily nodded, her eyes fixed on the door. She heard Alex's footsteps, light and cautious, as he made his way to the entrance.
Suddenly, the door creaked open, and Alex's voice was replaced by a low, menacing tone.
"Well, well, well. Look what we have here."
Emily's heart skipped a beat as she recognized the voice. It was Victor Wright, the patriarch of the Wright family.
Victor's eyes scanned the room, his gaze lingering on Emily before settling on Alex. "I see you're still harboring the little rebel," he sneered.
Alex stood tall, his eyes flashing with anger. "You have no right to be here, Victor."
Victor chuckled, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Oh, but I do. You see, I've been watching you, Alex. And I know all about your little plan."
Emily's eyes widened as she realized the implications. Victor knew about their plan to take him down.
Alex's expression turned cold. "You'll never get away with this, Victor."
Victor shrugged. "We'll see about that. You see, I have insurance. Something that will guarantee my safety, no matter what."
Emily's heart was racing as she tried to process Victor's words. What kind of insurance could he possibly have?
And then, just as she was about to find out, Emily heard a faint noise coming from outside the room. It sounded like footsteps, light and cautious.
Victor's eyes flicked towards the door, a look of annoyance flashing across his face. "Ah, perfect timing," he muttered.
As the door creaked open, Emily's eyes widened in shock. Standing in the doorway was a figure she never expected to see again.
It was her father.
