"Food? Talking big without fear of breaking your teeth. You think a few of you can trouble me? If I'm food, then you're nothing but ants crawling on the ground!" Anran, who had never been treated with such disrespect, immediately retorted defiantly.
Hearing Anran's words, the five individuals didn't respond with anger but instead erupted into laughter, as if they had just heard the funniest joke in the world.
The handsome leader laughed heartily, "Hahaha… did you hear that? This 'food' just called us ants? It's the first time I've heard a human describe us like that. It seems this one has some spice."
"But she looks so fresh. I can't wait to taste her," another chimed in, licking his lips.
"An… Anran, you need to… to leave," Zhang Ning's voice trembled with fear, her words clearly laced with panic.
Anran knew Zhang Ning was genuinely frightened, but even in such a dire situation, she still thought of others. It showed her kind heart. Just as Anran was about to comfort her, the leader spoke again, "Heh, did you really think you could leave? Don't worry, since you're such good friends, we won't let you be lonely."
As soon as he finished speaking, the four behind him moved simultaneously. In an instant, Anran and Zhang Ning were surrounded.
So fast!
Anran was utterly shocked. It had happened in the blink of an eye; she hadn't even seen how they moved. Only now did she realize something was terribly wrong. She bent her knees slightly, her arms hanging loosely at her sides, her bright eyes fixed intently ahead.
This was her combat-ready stance!
A flicker of surprise passed through the five's eyes. They sensed an immediate shift in Anran's aura, something unfamiliar to them. Yet, Anran had also piqued their curiosity.
This transfer student was indeed different from the other girls in the town. Her serious, defensive posture made her even more appealing. One of the boys couldn't resist licking his dry lips.
"Don't worry, we'll be gentle," the leader said softly.
"Gentle? Of course, our Jason always has a way with the ladies."
"Hahaha… hahaha…"
The others burst into laughter again.
Anran didn't know what the five intended to do, but she was certain it couldn't be good. Just as she was about to turn her head to reassure Zhang Ning, a flash of red light seemed to streak across her vision.
For a moment, Anran froze, but she quickly regained her composure. However, Zhang Ning, as if under a spell, lost all focus in her eyes, standing stock still like a puppet.
"Come to me. I won't hurt you," the leader said, waving slowly from in front of them.
His fingers were long, pale, and almost translucent. His wave was slow, exuding an air of elegance.
Anran noticed that the leader's originally brown eyes had taken on a reddish hue. But as he waved at them, his eyes returned to their normal color. Anran almost doubted that the red she had seen was just her imagination.
There was little time for Anran to ponder these details, for as soon as the leader finished speaking, Zhang Ning, as if controlled by strings, began to walk straight toward him.
Seeing this, Anran was horrified. She grabbed Zhang Ning's hand and shouted sternly, "Zhang Ning, what are you doing?"
But the unresponsive Zhang Ning didn't turn back. Her eyes were vacant, her pupils unfocused. She continued to move forward, forcing Anran to tighten her grip. Yet, Zhang Ning persisted, her steps unwavering. Anran's brows furrowed deeply.
"What's going on?" one of the boys muttered in surprise.
"What's wrong with this transfer student?"
"Jason…"
Anran didn't realize how astonishing her behavior seemed to them. This woman was still conscious, not falling into a hypnotic state. The leader even paused his motion, his handsome face filled with astonishment.
