Anran didn't want to dwell any longer on the bizarre connection between anemia and charm. To her, anemia was just an illness. But the school uniform colors were another oddity. As a new transfer student, she hadn't received hers yet.
"Oh! I thought it was just a difference between lower and upper grades. But why does the school have two uniform colors?" Anran asked.
Zhang Ning replied, "Actually, St. Trinity Academy has three uniform colors. Most students wear blue, a few wear purple, and the student council members wear white."
Anran glanced at Zhang Ning's blue uniform and nodded in understanding. "So, does that mean I'll get a blue uniform too? And what about those who wear purple?"
Zhang Ning, excited to explain, said, "It's said that students who wear purple uniforms have families connected to the Morris family. Their relatives work for the Morris family."
Anran was taken aback. She couldn't believe that even in such a remote town, the school enforced a hierarchy.
"So, wearing blue uniforms means you're from the town's common families?" Anran asked, a hint of disapproval in her tone.
Zhang Ning opened her mouth to answer, but a mocking laugh interrupted her.
"Hahaha… hahaha…"
"Who's there?" Anran demanded sharply.
She was surprised. Had she been so engrossed in the conversation that her usually sharp instincts failed to notice someone nearby?
Soon, footsteps approached. Five boys in purple uniforms emerged from the shaded path ahead, their backs to the setting sun.
One stood in the center, flanked by the other four. From his demeanor, he was clearly their leader, and it was he who had let out the scornful laugh.
Anran narrowed her eyes, studying the group.
To her surprise, they were all strikingly handsome, especially the leader. He had short brown hair, deep brown eyes, and pale skin. His features were sharp, with a high nose, giving him a somewhat mixed-race appearance. His smile was smug and irritating, and the way they looked at her made Anran extremely uncomfortable.
"Was that laugh from you? What's so funny?" Anran asked, her gaze piercing as she stared at the smirking boy.
The boy's lips curled into a faint smile as he replied nonchalantly, "I laughed because you've misunderstood the true meaning of the blue uniforms. Did you think they represent commoners?"
"If not, care to explain what they symbolize?" Anran shot back, refusing to back down.
The boy's eyes sparkled with amusement. "The blue uniforms represent food. In other words, you're nothing more than our prey."
Prey?
Anran was stunned. Was she hearing this right?
If she hadn't misheard, the boy had just said that those in blue uniforms were food. Were they cannibals?
Zhang Ning, standing beside Anran, was visibly shaken. From the moment the five boys appeared, fear had etched itself onto her face. She couldn't quite explain it, but they seemed different from how they were at school.
It was as if she were a lamb, and they were a pack of hungry wolves.
"An… Anran…" Zhang Ning called out nervously, her legs trembling. She desperately wanted to leave. Even when the girls in her class had bullied her, she'd never felt this scared.
Hearing the tension in Zhang Ning's voice, Anran gave her a reassuring look. "It's fine. I'm here."
The five boys spoke oddly, their tone arrogant, and their glances toward the two girls were filled with disdain, as if they were inherently inferior, mere pawns to be toyed with.
Though they seemed menacing, Anran wasn't fazed. Just look at them—so thin, so pale…
To someone who had trained in martial arts since childhood, they looked utterly weak!
