Just as Dr. D's scalpel was about to slice through the American agent's throat, the bloodthirsty man let out a piercing shriek. His face twisted in agony, and the scalpel slipped from his hand, clattering to the ground. He thrashed wildly, turning and clawing at the air as if battling invisible forces.
The agent, narrowly escaping death, glanced behind Dr. D and saw Murong Mingyue holding a peculiar weapon. It was made entirely of copper, with several tubes intricately connected, resembling an ancient firearm. Engravings adorned its surface, though the dim light made it impossible to discern their details.
Clearly, it was this weapon that had triggered Dr. D's frenzied reaction, though the agent could see nothing unusual happening.
Moments later, Dr. D roared again. Dozens of claw-like gashes inexplicably appeared on his white lab coat, and foul-smelling blood oozed from the wounds. His face began to deform, the skin bubbling and peeling as if scalded by boiling water.
The agent watched in terror, his gaze shifting to Murong Mingyue with a mix of fear and awe.
With a loud thud, Dr. D collapsed to his knees, his arms hanging limply by his sides. Thin wisps of eerie white smoke began to rise from his body…
Seeing that Dr. D was no longer a threat, Murong Mingyue finally holstered his weapon. It was undeniably effective, though heavy and awkwardly shaped—an antique-looking device that had nearly been confiscated by customs when he entered the country. Only after proving it wasn't a functional firearm had they allowed him to pass.
The white smoke dissipated into the night sky. Murong Mingyue glanced at the invisible entities. They had fought against darkness, achieved redemption, and purified themselves. Now, they could rest in peace…
The American agent finally regained his composure and stepped in front of Murong Mingyue. "No matter which organization sent you, Dr. D is an American citizen. This is our nation's business—stay out of it!"
"This falls under American jurisdiction?" Murong Mingyue asked calmly.
"Absolutely."
Murong Mingyue considered the situation. The Hunter Alliance had taken on this mission at the request of Dr. D's wife, who suspected her husband's disappearance was linked to vampires due to his close association with one. However, Dr. D's wife wasn't an American.
As he pondered how to respond, Dr. D let out a guttural roar. In an instant, his eyes glowed a deep, blood-red.
A second mutation?
Murong Mingyue was stunned. Dr. D was merely a biologist—how could this happen? Clearly, he had no knowledge of the man's secret experiments.
The agent, equally alarmed, raised his gun and fired at Dr. D's shoulder. But Dr. D caught the bullet with his bare hand, the projectile piercing his palm. Seizing the opportunity, he fled into the darkness.
They had already witnessed Dr. D's inhuman speed. In the blink of an eye, the figure in the white lab coat vanished into the night.
The agent chased after him, shouting, "Dr. D! Surrender now!"
Murong Mingyue, however, stayed behind. He didn't possess such unnatural speed. Finding someone required the right approach, and he had a better plan.
Instead, he entered St. Celestine Academy and approached the old dormitory. There were things here that would help him locate Dr. D…
