Richard's expression turned to one of shock and confusion as he saw the holy light emanating from the cross. Someone—a powerful cleric—must have blessed it with their prayers and consecrated it with significant spiritual energy. Otherwise, how could it repel even him?
After all, he carried the pure royal bloodline within his veins.
Seeing Richard's reaction, An Ran was equally stunned. This meant the vampire earlier hadn't fled out of fear of the Morris family but because of the cross. And now, even Richard was affected by it.
So, her grandfather had been right—Murong Mingyue truly was an extraordinary man.
An Ran was about to explain the situation to Richard when hurried footsteps approached. A long-haired man dressed in black appeared before them.
"Mr. Murong!" An Ran exclaimed with relief.
To her surprise, Murong Mingyue raised a peculiar object in his hand and pointed it at Richard, commanding, "Vampire, step away from the girl!"
The authoritative tone infuriated Richard, who was already on edge. He sneered, "You're the one who should leave!"
In an instant, Richard lunged forward, but Murong Mingyue pulled the trigger on his weapon.
An invisible projectile, formed from the essence of vengeful spirits, struck Richard. Startled, he halted his attack, an unsettling and repulsive sensation washing over him. Murong Mingyue, however, was even more astonished.
Sharp shrieks echoed in the air as white smoke began to rise from Richard's body before dissipating into nothingness.
"Hey, human! What did you do to me?" Richard roared, furious and bewildered. Why was his body emitting smoke?
Though he couldn't see anything, the strange, uncomfortable feeling lingered.
Murong Mingyue observed him calmly and said, "Royal bloodline."
No wonder the spirit rounds had no effect—they disintegrated upon contact. This vampire possessed royal blood, making him far superior to ordinary dark creatures. It seemed only holy power could subdue him.
Though the discomfort quickly faded, Richard couldn't let this human's insolence go unpunished.
In a flash, his violet eyes turned crimson with rage.
"Wait, Richard!" An Ran cried out urgently.
Though she couldn't see anything either, she could sense Richard's murderous intent toward Murong Mingyue.
Richard sprang toward Murong Mingyue, his movements lightning-fast as he struck with his right hand.
A human's speed was no match for a vampire's, but Murong Mingyue raised his right arm to shield his face. Richard's hand struck the arm, but before he could transform it into a claw, a blinding white light erupted from Murong Mingyue's arm, as radiant as the first light of dawn.
Richard instinctively closed his eyes, his palm searing with intense heat and pain.
Murong Mingyue swiftly struck Richard's chest with his left palm, sending him reeling back with a pained grunt. Richard landed near An Ran, disoriented and furious.
Murong Mingyue rolled up his sleeves, revealing intricate tattoos on both arms. His right arm bore an image of the crucifixion of Jesus, while his left arm was marked with strange, ancient characters.
Recognizing the symbols, Richard gritted his teeth and spat, "Exorcist."
