Seeing that the two men were about to clash again, An Ran quickly stepped between them, her voice tense. "Stop! You're both friends here!"
Murong Mingyue wasn't surprised by her intervention. "Benefactor, don't be deceived by the vampire's influence," he said calmly.
An Ran hurriedly explained, "No, Mr. Murong, I'm not hypnotized."
Murong Mingyue studied her carefully. She indeed didn't seem to be under any mental control, but he was still puzzled by her defense of the vampire.
If he hadn't been mistaken earlier, the vampire had clearly intended to take her, only deterred by the cross she wore.
"An Ran, why does he call you 'benefactor'?" Richard demanded, his voice laced with anger.
The tension in the air was thick, and An Ran felt overwhelmed.
Just as she was about to explain, Lester and the butler, Sheffield, arrived on the scene.
From a distance, Lester called out, "An Ran, are you all right?"
Two more vampires?
Murong Mingyue's sharp eyes narrowed as he observed the approaching figures. When Lester's heterochromatic eyes met his, both men froze momentarily, their bodies stiffening.
Only they understood what had happened—in that brief moment, their abilities had clashed.
Both possessed mind-reading powers, but they were subtly different…
Lester's presence carried a calming aura, easing the oppressive atmosphere.
"I'm fine, just shaken," An Ran replied.
She gathered her thoughts and continued, "Earlier, a vampire lured me outside by pretending to be chased by stray dogs. He tried to hypnotize me, but when that failed, he attempted to take me by force. The cross Mr. Murong blessed stopped him, and then Richard arrived—the scene you witnessed, Mr. Murong."
An Ran summarized the events succinctly, omitting many details, but everyone present grasped the gist.
"So, it really is a survivor of the Hahn family…" Richard muttered bitterly.
"Wait, you know that terrifying vampire?" An Ran asked, surprised. "Why did he want to kidnap me?"
Richard hesitated, unsure how to explain. If only he hadn't made that school broadcast…
Lester, aware of Richard's dilemma, believed honesty was the best course of action.
"The Hahn family are enemies of the Morris family," Lester explained. "They've been secretly operating in Rosewood Town. Today, he learned of your relationship with Richard and decided to take you."
So that was it! An Ran finally understood why the vampire had laughed maniacally upon seeing the cross. Earlier, his gaze had seemed fixated on something significant.
Benefactor? Murong Mingyue was taken aback. So, this young woman and the vampire were lovers? The Morris family—why did that name sound familiar?
It seemed he had indeed meddled unnecessarily, but the presence that had been here earlier… why had it been a vampire?
"Benefactor, did a man in a white coat pass by earlier?" Murong Mingyue asked.
"A white coat? A doctor?" An Ran asked, puzzled. "Mr. Murong, I didn't see anyone like that."
Murong Mingyue frowned. The spirits in the vial had clearly led him here, but Dr. D was nowhere to be found. Instead, a vampire had appeared. Unless… the spirits' greatest hatred wasn't directed at Dr. D, but at the vampire.
What was going on?
