The gym teacher hadn't returned yet; he had gone to fetch the sports equipment.
"She needs immediate first aid!" An Ran exclaimed anxiously.
Hearing this, none of the boys dared to step forward. They were all afraid to touch Ai Xue, especially since she had been spending a lot of time with Jason lately. If he found out…
An Ran didn't understand the thoughts running through their minds, but she felt an overwhelming sense of anger at their indifference.
"A Ning, help me support Ai Xue," An Ran said. "I'll carry her to the infirmary."
"Okay," Zhang Ning quickly responded.
The girl who had been speaking with Ai Xue earlier also stepped forward and helped Zhang Ning lift her.
An Ran remembered her—Xiao You, the girl who had caused a stir in class that day. She was Ai Xue's friend.
"An Ran, are you sure you're okay?" Zhang Ning asked.
"Don't worry, it's easy. I'll head to the infirmary. You guys go find the gym teacher," An Ran said, quickly walking away.
The weight on her back was much lighter than An Ran had expected. She had easily hoisted Ai Xue up, feeling momentarily surprised at how light she was.
In the infirmary.
"Doctor! My classmate needs first aid!" An Ran burst through the door, panting.
The man who had been sitting in a chair immediately stood up. He had intended to take the girl from An Ran's back, but the moment his hands touched her, he let out a low gasp, feeling a burning pain.
"Ah! You're a vampire!" An Ran blurted out.
The man looked at her in surprise. In Rosewood Town, very few humans knew of the existence of vampires, and even fewer within the walls of St. Tynan Academy. But when he saw the cross hanging around the girl's neck, he understood.
"Lay her down. I'll examine her," he said.
An Ran quickly placed Ai Xue on the bed. By now, Ai Xue's face had turned slightly bluish, as if the shadow of death was looming over her.
"Who did this?" The man's voice carried unmistakable anger.
An Ran was stunned. What did he mean?
Seeing her confusion, the vampire quickly leaned over and inspected Ai Xue's neck. There were two distinct red marks, surrounded by a pale ring. His expression turned grave, and it wasn't until Ai Xue's breathing stabilized slightly that he relaxed.
"Doctor, what's wrong with my classmate?" An Ran asked. It was then that she took a better look at the vampire before her.
He was a mature vampire man, with sharp, handsome features. His black hair was short and neat, and his golden eyes were piercing. Dressed in a white coat with a stethoscope around his neck, his complexion was pale but not as sickly white as the vampires An Ran had seen before. If it weren't for the reaction to the cross, she would never have guessed he was a vampire.
"She's lost a dangerous amount of blood," the man replied.
An Ran was shocked. "But there are no wounds on her body! Unless…"
"Since you know I'm a vampire, you should understand why she's lost blood," the man continued. "As far as I know, Rosewood Town doesn't allow vampires to harm humans to this extent. Do you know which vampire she's been associating with recently?"
In that moment, an image of a vampire boy flashed in An Ran's mind, and a name slipped from her lips:
"Jason Byron!"
