Chapter 129: The Offering of Blood

The man was silent for a moment, his brow furrowed as he asked, "Oh, the Byron family? What's his relationship with Sheffield Byron, the steward of the castle?"

An Ran was taken aback. She had no idea that Sheffield's surname was Byron. She recalled the first time she had met Jason. Back then, Richard had said, "Jason Byron, for your uncle's sake, I'll let this slide this time…"

So, that annoying Jason was actually Sheffield's nephew. But why didn't the school doctor at St. Tynan Academy know about their relationship?

Seeing her confusion, the man explained, "I'm sorry, the situation was urgent just now, and I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Mark, a vampire from England. I arrived in Rosewood Town this June and currently serve as the school doctor here at St. Tynan Academy. It's a pleasure to meet you, An Ran."

"Dr. Mark, how do you know my name?" An Ran asked, surprised.

Dr. Mark pointed to the cross she was wearing and smiled. "Because I've seen this symbol on Duke Morris's ring. Also, I heard yesterday's broadcast."

An Ran's face immediately flushed red, resembling a ripe peach.

The captivating color on her face left Dr. Mark momentarily stunned. Then, with a puzzled expression, he asked, "Have you not offered your blood yet?"

An Ran didn't understand what he meant. "You mean donating blood?"

"No. Anyone who is recognized as a vampire's partner must offer their blood," Dr. Mark explained. "For example, your classmate here. However, she wasn't chosen by a vampire. She lost blood while under hypnosis, so she doesn't even know that her condition has become life-threatening."

Anyone who is recognized as a vampire's partner must offer their blood…

Hearing this, An Ran glanced at Ai Xue's lifeless appearance, recalling how sweet and lively she had once been. Instinctively, she covered the major artery on her neck.

By now, Dr. Mark had checked Ai Xue's blood type. She was type O. He asked, "Fresh blood is more effective than that from the blood bank. Are you type O?"

"I… think so," An Ran replied.

"Let's test your blood type first. If it's not a match, we'll use the blood from the bank," Dr. Mark said.

With a life at stake, An Ran naturally didn't refuse. She extended her hand, letting Dr. Mark prick one of her fingers. A drop of blood welled up immediately.

The scent of blood filled the air, causing Dr. Mark's golden pupils to contract slightly. He could feel the warmth of the blood, and his fangs nearly emerged.

Dr. Mark quickly covered his mouth and handed her a piece of gauze. "I think I'll use the blood from the bank after all. Stop the bleeding on your finger first."

An Ran was puzzled. Wasn't fresh blood supposed to be better?

Dr. Mark, however, had already moved swiftly to retrieve a blood bag and inserted the IV needle into Ai Xue's vein.

To mask his earlier slip, he said, "An Ran, since you're Richard Morris's partner, I'd like you to inform him about what Jason Byron has done to this girl. She can't afford to lose any more blood, or her life will…"

"I'll relay the message," An Ran nodded.

Dr. Mark finally suppressed his inner desire. Noticing An Ran's troubled expression, he tried to reassure her. "An Ran, if you've decided to become a vampire's partner, you'll need to come to terms with this sooner or later. It's not as terrifying as it seems…"

As Dr. Mark spoke, his voice softened, as if recalling some past memory.

An Ran understood what he meant, but ever since learning about Ai Xue's condition, she had been feeling uneasy.

She couldn't imagine that one day, she might end up like Ai Xue. She thought she should trust Richard…
