The entire classroom buzzed with excitement as Ma'am Rivera clapped her hands to get everyone's attention.
"Alright, class, as part of your final project, you'll be performing a skit based on historical events," she announced. "You'll work in pairs, and since I know some of you will just partner up with your best friends, I've already made the pairings for you."
A collective groan echoed across the room.
Mara leaned over and whispered to Lira, "I swear, if I don't get Jace, I'm going to lose it."
Lira giggled, but before she could respond, Ma'am Rivera started listing the pairs.
"Mara and Jace."
Mara's entire face lit up, and she barely suppressed a squeal. Lira smiled at her, knowing how much she wanted this.
Then, Ma'am Rivera continued.
"Lira and Zayn."
Lira's breath hitched. Of course. She should've expected this.
She turned to glance at Zayn, who was leaning back in his chair, arms crossed. He smirked when their eyes met.
"This should be interesting," he murmured.
Lira swallowed. Why did her heart just skip a beat?
Jace, sitting next to her, leaned in. "Looks like we're stuck with them, huh?" His voice was casual, but there was something in his eyes—something unreadable.
Mara, meanwhile, looked like she had won the lottery.
"Jace and I will kill this project," she said excitedly.
Jace chuckled. "We'll see."
Lira sighed. Between Zayn's mysterious aura and Jace's sudden closeness, she already knew this project was going to be complicated.
