Chapter 9: Unwanted Feelings

The hotel door shut behind Olivia, sealing her in the quiet of her room. But inside, her thoughts were anything but quiet.

Her fingers hovered over her lips, still tingling from Adrian's kiss. It was nothing. Just for the cameras. A carefully orchestrated move to keep up their charade.

So why couldn't she shake the feeling that there was something more behind it?

With a frustrated sigh, she tossed her purse onto the bed and grabbed her phone. Predictably, social media was already on fire.

"Adrian Hayes confirms romance with mystery woman!"

"The billionaire musician finally off the market?"

"That kiss—genuine or PR stunt?"

Olivia groaned, rubbing her temples. This was spiraling faster than she'd expected.

A notification popped up. Liam: Press wants an exclusive interview about your relationship. We need to talk.

Perfect.

She barely had time to process the message before her phone buzzed again—this time, a call from an unknown number.

Hesitating, she answered. "Hello?"

A familiar voice came through the line, smooth yet unreadable. "You're overthinking it, Carter."

Her grip on the phone tightened. "Adrian?"

He chuckled. "Who else?"

She scowled. "Did you give me your number?"

"I had Liam pass it along. Thought you might need it."

"For what? Late-night advice on fake dating?"

"Exactly."

She could practically hear the smirk in his voice.

"You kissed me," she accused, pacing the room.

"For the cameras," he reminded her.

She scoffed. "Right. For the cameras."

A beat of silence passed before he said, softer, "Was it that bad?"

Her breath hitched. "That's not the point."

He hummed in amusement. "If you say so."

She could feel the heat rising in her cheeks and cursed herself for it. Get a grip, Olivia.

"This doesn't change anything," she said firmly. "I still don't trust you."

"Good," he said easily. "Distrust keeps things interesting."

Before she could snap back, he added, "Sleep well, Carter."

The line went dead.

Olivia stared at her phone, her heart beating just a little too fast.

This was dangerous.

Because fake or not, Adrian Hayes was starting to get under her skin.
