When I woke up, I checked the time. I was on schedule, so for once, I took the time to get ready properly. Usually, when I went to class, I never prepared myself correctly because I didn't have the time.
When my sister saw me well-dressed and neatly groomed, she was surprised and said:
— What's going on with you? Do you have a girlfriend or something?
— No, why would you say that?
— Then there's a girl you like?
— No, still not. But why are you saying that?
— Then why did you get all dressed up?
— I had time, that's all. Is it that shocking?
— No, quite the opposite. It's just that you never put effort into your appearance.
— Oh, just for that? You know, people change. No one stays the same forever.
— What are you saying? Why are you talking like this now?
— Never mind, you'll understand later.
— You're really acting weird, she said.
— If you say so.
— I do say so.
— Anyway, I'm leaving, or I'll be late.
— Alright then, see you later.
— Yeah, see you, I replied as I left the house.
When I arrived at school, I felt people staring at me, and I overheard whispers.
— Do you think he's new?
— I don't know, but he's really handsome.
I ignored their words and went to my classroom, which was still empty. I sat in my usual seat, and ten minutes later, the classroom was full. Everyone was looking at me. The class representative came over and said:
— Excuse me, but this seat is already taken.
— Uh, yeah, I know.
— If you know, then could you move? The person who sits here should be arriving soon, and they need their seat.
— Well, I'm already here. Who else could take my seat?
— Huh? What? she replied, confused.
— I said, I'm already here. Who else could take the seat that was assigned to me?
— So… you're Ehito?
— Uh, yeah, that's me. Who else would it be?
— I'm so sorry, I didn't recognize you, she said, bowing before walking away, clearly embarrassed.
The murmurs in the classroom grew louder, but then the teacher arrived. Unlike the others, she wasn't shocked. She had already seen me properly groomed before. She called roll as usual, and class began.
I was sitting in the back by the window, as per tradition. I stared outside. The teacher noticed but didn't say anything. She knew that I already understood the lesson and was taking notes at the same time while looking outside. No one could explain how I managed to do that, but for me, it was effortless.
When classes ended, the teacher called me to her office alone. I followed her, and she spoke:
— Why did you decide to come like this today?
— I had time to get ready this morning, so I did. But why are you asking, Tati?
— Because the whole class was shocked that you suddenly showed up well-dressed and neatly groomed. People thought you were a new student. I know the class rep came to me this morning, saying that someone was sitting in the wrong seat.
— So, you see for yourself—people think I'm new.
— Doesn't that bother you?
— Not really. I only see them in class anyway.
— You're unbelievable… Well, tomorrow, when you come, at least pay attention in class.
— I will, don't worry, I said as I left her office.
After school, on my way home, I stopped by a small store to buy a snack.
Just as I was about to enter, I heard a voice say:
— It's him!
I immediately turned around and saw a man much taller than me. And I wasn't short—I was 1.80 meters tall. He had to be around two meters, and he was built like a tank. He lunged at me.
I managed to react just in time before he could touch me. I looked around and saw the girl from yesterday.
— Why are you attacking me? I asked.
She glared at me, her voice filled with anger.
— Don't you remember yesterday?
— Yeah. I turned you down, if I recall.
— Yes! And that's the problem! she shouted, furious.
— I don't see the issue. I just don't like you.
— The problem is that everyone is supposed to love me. And for those who don't, I send my brother after them.
— You're seriously crazy.
— How dare you say that about my sister, you bastard?! her brother yelled, swinging a punch at me.
But I had been training in martial arts since I was a kid. It only took a strike to the back of his knees and a sharp knee to his chin to knock him out cold.
Then I turned toward his sister.
Suddenly, I felt a warm liquid spreading across my shirt.
I looked down.
A long knife was embedded in my stomach, right at my right side.
The moment I realized it, a wave of unbearable pain crashed over me.
I screamed so loudly that my voice tore.
But I refused to give up.
I made the worst possible mistake in that situation—I pulled the blade out of the wound. Walking with a long knife inside me hurt even more. Either way, I was doomed to die…
In this timeline (that's what I call the realities where I die and cease to exist), I wanted revenge. I wanted her to suffer for what she had done to me.
I stepped toward her.
— Stay away from me! she screamed.
But no one could stop me.
I raised the knife, ready to plunge it into her, ready to make her suffer as much as I had.
I even imagined the look on her brother's face when he woke up.
But just as the blade was about to pierce her…
The knife slipped from my hand.
My body gave up on me.
My legs collapsed beneath me.
I fell to the ground.
I wanted to scream… but I couldn't anymore.
So, I accepted reality.
And I would make her suffer…
In the next timeline.
