You Are Right,I Love You, Poppy

Chapter Four -- You are right, I love you, Poppy.

He said nothing and she turned her back to him. She was done for the day, and would return later. She pack up her files and walked to the door, waiting for them to open it for her.

"I will see you in a few days, Poppy." He said and she looked back at him, he was comfortable, he was chill and he was smirking. She didn't understand how he could be that chill, how he could smirk at her, and she felt so pissed.

"Do you understand what is going to happen to you, Markovic?" She snarled.

"You are going to die. You are going to die in the most painful way, you could get a Lethal Injection, do you know what makes up a Lethal Injection? Midazolam, Vecuronuim bromide and Potassium Chloride. If you think you have felt pain, prepare to be shocked. Personally, the electric chair seem fitting for a person like you, or maybe the Gas Chamber, perhaps death by hanging or a firing squad." She told him, and shrugged.

"Perhaps they could revert back to historical methods like the Guillotine, the Breaking Wheel or maybe you should be burnt at stake. You are going to die, Pierce, you will die and I will watch, everyone will watch as you take your last breath, the world will be rid of the evil you are. The least you can do is give the families closure, but that is fine if you don't want to, because, either way, you will be dead." She seethed.

"Morality is subjective, mine is clear." Markovic spoke and she frowned, and exhaled, he wanted to unnerve her and make her lose her cool, which he had successfully did, and now, he seemed to be an embodiment of parables, a paradox she aimed to solve.

The door opened and she walked out, feeling his burning gaze, but she did not look back. She was free, and he was not, he was in chains, behind bars and yet, she felt held back, she felt confined in a way.

"Do you see what we are dealing with?" Ryan Reed scratched his head awkwardly and Poppy nodded "I do see what you are dealing with."

"How long before he cracks?" Kate Patel asked and Poppy frowned "I don't know, he probably won't crack, he won't tell us anything, and every session we have, he may just keep stalling, throwing in some words, trying to confuse us, and lead us astray. So, you should probably be aware that you will probably not get the result you are aiming for."

"So, what happens now?" Ryan frowned.

"Markovic Pierce seem to be a complicated person, he is amused at the way we are trying to figure out the motive behind his kills. Even behind bars, he holds a certain power, and I wonder if he has someone working for him, if he did everything alone, which could also show the extent of the power he has. I believe your focus should be on keeping him behind bars, while continuing the investigation, and I will do my job, too." She shrugged.

Poppy walked to her car, trying to push away Pierce's words away from her head. She wondered what his endgame is, he had to know that in a few months, he will be sentenced to death or life imprisonment, which is unlikely, because of some of the people he killed. Senator Donovan's family were in mourning and the only thing that would give them the closure they deserved was justice being served.

She had her work cut out for her, she would extensively research Pierce's background, his childhood and she would find ways to get in touch with his family. She also needed to find the link between the victims, perhaps these was because of revenge, or just madness, the latter was more likely.

Her phone rang and she leaned against her car, and picked David's call "Hey baby." "How did it go? I'm sure you aced it." He said cheerfully and she chuckled, David was her biggest cheerleader even if he was concerned about her job's choice, but he would always support her.

"It went okay, and as much as I want to tell you about it, you know I can't." She frowned, she tried to keep her private life far away from her professional life, it kept her sane.

"Of course, I understand. I will see you in a few days, I wish I can leave the conference and come home to you. I miss you." He whined and she chuckled "I miss you, too, but you know how important the conference is, and I will see you in a few days."

"You are right, I love you, Poppy." He whispered and she beamed "I love you, too, David. Talk to you later."

The call ended and she smiled, staring at their picture which was her wallpaper, David loved her and she loved him just as much, she was eager to continue her life with him, as his wife, it was all she had waited for. Poppy frowned and she looked back, because she felt someone gaze on her, but when she looked back, she found no one looking at her, which was odd, because the second she looked forward, she felt someone gaze on her, again.

"I just need a bath." She told herself and got in her car, and drove home. She lived with David in a beautiful apartment, with white picket fence, that was where they would raise their family, eventually, because she was not interested in having kids now, all she wanted to do was focus on her career for a while.

She pulled into their home, packed her car, and got down, cracking her neck, it had been a long day and she wanted to rest. Poppy was glad that none of her neighbour were out, because socializing was the worst thing ever and it drained her.

Pulling out her key, she froze when she saw a book on her door step, with a note on it. It was Fyodor Dostoevsky's The Brothers Karamazov and the note read -- Dmitri's struggle is yours now, M.
