I Hope You Are Discarding Of Your IUD

Chapter Six -- I hope you are discarding of your IUD.

"So, tell us about the psychopath you are splitting open." Harriet chuckled and Poppy frowned at her.

Poppy was hosting her friends and family to celebrate the deal David closed for the family company. David was the son of Richard Grayson, a very prominent business man in America, and the CEO of Grayson Corporation, which was a family business, and had been in their family for decades, David was the first son, and the company would be yours in a year, he was working so hard to be worthy of it, which Poppy considered ridiculous.

David was from a family of four and his younger sister was Harriet, who was not Poppy's favorite person, but she was engaged to her brother, so a smile wouldn't hurt. Poppy had three older brothers -- Liam, who was married to Ophelia, they were expecting their first child, her second brother was Patrick, he has been married to his wife, Cami, for over five years, and they had two kids, twins, Penelope and Chris, while her third brother, who was the eldest, was William, he was divorced and childless, but he was dating a young woman named Zara, who also happened to be Poppy's favorite.

"You know Poppy cannot talk about work, Harry." David chuckled and Poppy smiled gratefully at him, but Harriet scoffed "Seeing as Dad got her the job, the least she can do is tell us about it, entertain us a bit."

Poppy was young to be a Criminal Psychologist, too young to be interviewing a serial killer in a high profile FBI case, but she was very intelligent, top of her class, she had her BSC, Masters and her PhD, but the only reason she got the job was because of David's father influence and connection. Perhaps, not the only reason.

"Stop it, Harry. Poppy is intelligent and the FBI are glad to have her on the team." David's mom, Lily said and Poppy nodded at her.

Poppy hated these events -- well, maybe hated was such a strong word to describe it, but she was not a fan of these gatherings. Her family and David's family were close, and familiar, but she was exhausted of being the host every two weeks, listening to Harriet's backhanded compliments and just doing everything, but she was about to be married to David, so she had to smile and pretend she was having the time of her life.

"Who wants desserts?" She grinned, and walked to the kitchen. "I'll come with you." Zara said, and joined her in the kitchen.

Zara was two years older than she was and William was ten years older than Zara, and twelve years older than Poppy, so naturally a lot of people hated on Zara and William's relationship, because anything that deviated out of the societal norms was automatically frowned upon, which was crazy to Poppy, because Zara and William were one of the happiest couple she had ever seen, and she would always support her older brother, he was the best, he took care of her, and he gave her everything she ever needed.

"Are you okay, Poppy?" Zara asked and Poppy looked up from the cheesecake "Yes, I am, why did you ask?" "You were frowning." Zara pointed out and Poppy smiled, it was automatic, she should never frown.

"I am just exhausted, I was up all night working, and these gatherings are just the energy boost I need." She said the last part sarcastically, but she was up all night, going over Markovic Pierce's file, trying to find a clue, but she found none.

Zara frowned, about to say something, but before she could, Poppy's mom walked to them, and Poppy bit back a groan. Her mother walked to her and whispered "Poppy, try to be nicer to Harriet, she is going through a tough time and sit up straight. These cheesecakes look so good."

"I have had better cheesecakes." Harriet frowned and Poppy ignored her.

"How is the baby, Ophelia?" Richard asked and Poppy looked up, and smiled, she was excited to be an Aunt, again, and Ophelia was just the best person to have as a sister-in-law, unlike Harriet, who made sure no one had a good time.

"Kicking, he has strong legs, and we are happy about that." Ophelia smiled and Poppy grinned.

"How about you, Poppy?" Lily asked and Poppy froze "Me?" "Yes, David is our first son, and we are excited to be grandparents. The wedding is in three months, and I hope you are discarding of your IUD and every other form of birth controls, we need a baby in the Grayson family." She gushed and Poppy was stunned.

"Mom, not at dinner." David groaned, blushing and Poppy blinked "Lily, the wedding is not in three months, a date has not even been set, and I'm not having kids any time soon. I just got a new project, and I need to put my focus on that, I need to build my career, I can't just throw that away at the peak of it. David is busy at work, and soon, he will the CEO, and I hope to make a break in this case soon. We have all our lives to get married." She articulated and there was a change in the atmosphere.

"What? You are not going to be Mrs. Grayson soon?" Lily frowned, gobsmacked and Poppy scoffed "Mrs. Grayson? I am Poppy Ellis, Dr. Poppy Ellis, I am not changing my name, and neither am I interested in hyphenating."

"Poppy." Her dad said and she looked at him, then looked back at Lily, who looked pale and Poppy could not understand why they expected her to throw away her life, her name and her career.

"A new project? You won't even tell us what the project is, despite the fact that my Daddy got you the job." Harriet said nastily and Poppy snapped "You want to know what I am working on? I am working on a serial killer who murdered forty six people in a very short time frame. Are you satisfied now?" She snarled, got up and walked away.
