The Devil’s Return

Luca's grip on the phone tightened as Adrian's voice filled the room, smooth and taunting, a ghost resurrected from the ashes.

"I must say, Luca, I expected you to come looking for me," Adrian continued. "But I thought you'd be smarter about it."

Elena exchanged a sharp glance with Dante. This was a trap.

Luca's jaw clenched. "You should've stayed dead."

Adrian chuckled, the sound laced with amusement. "And miss all the fun? No, no, my friend. I have so much unfinished business. Especially with you."

Vasquez smirked from his seat, his confidence unwavering despite the gun still pressed to his forehead. "Told you," he murmured.

Elena stepped forward, her voice steady. "Why reveal yourself now?"

Adrian hummed as if considering. "Because I wanted to see the look on your faces when you realized that the war isn't over."

A pause.

Then Adrian's voice lowered, venom lacing every word.

"And because I have something that belongs to you."

Luca's stomach dropped.

A new sound filtered through the phone—muffled sobs. A woman's voice. Weak. Desperate.

"No," Elena whispered.

Luca's blood ran cold. "Who do you have?"

Adrian sighed dramatically. "Come on, Luca. I expected you to at least pretend to keep track of the people who matter."

The sobbing grew louder. Then, a choked-out plea:

"Luca… please…"

Luca's world tilted.

His sister.

Sofia.

Elena gasped. Dante swore under his breath.

Luca's vision went red. "If you touch her—"

Adrian cut him off. "You're not in a position to make threats. But I'll make you an offer."

Luca's fingers twitched on the trigger. "What do you want?"

Adrian's voice turned deadly. "Come find me. Alone. Let's settle this. You and me."

Silence stretched.

Then Adrian added, "Oh, and Luca?"

Luca gritted his teeth. "What?"

Adrian chuckled darkly. "Don't keep me waiting."

The call disconnected.

The room felt suffocating.

Luca exhaled sharply, shoving the phone into his pocket before turning to Dante and Elena.

"I'm going after him."

Elena grabbed his arm. "We both are."

Luca's eyes met hers, filled with unspoken emotions. Fear. Rage. Desperation.

Dante sighed. "We're not walking into this blind. We need a plan."

Luca nodded once. "Then let's get to work."

Because Adrian had just made one mistake—

He let Luca live long enough to come for him.
