Chapter 2

She opened her phone and saw my forty-eight missed calls.

Melody let out a cold laugh. "Of course he's trying to bother us. Good thing I turned off my phone."

Levi patted her shoulder. "Hurry up and tell Rylan the good news!"

She nodded and started to call me.

"The number you have dialed is currently switched off."

After three attempts.

Melody was gradually losing patience.

"For a grown man, he sure can't take much. He's still mad at me!"

"I want to see how long he can hold out."

As he said this, the smile on Levi's face grew even more intense.

"Rylan just loves you too much. It's normal for him to play hard to get."

Melody snorted. "His love makes me sick. If he hadn't drugged me, I'd be standing on the international stage right now, bringing glory to our country."

They chatted and laughed, but Melody's heart remained uneasy.

It felt as if something was gradually disappearing from her side.

At the corner of the hospital, she suddenly stopped.

Her eyes locked onto Harmony, who was picking up medication alone.

She quickly caught up and grabbed Harmony's arm. "Where's your dad?"

The scars on Harmony's face hadn't faded yet. She turned her head, fighting back tears as she said, "Dad's gone."

"Well, well!" Melody sneered, "Rylan really went all out, didn't he? Making you act out this little drama. That injury on your face is just makeup, isn't it?"

Harmony shook her head. "Dad really..."

Suddenly, Levi grabbed Melody's arm. "Ouch, my head is killing me. My old problem's acting up again."

Melody's attention was immediately drawn to Levi, causing her to miss the last two words Harmony uttered: "passed away."

Of course, Melody had always only cared about Levi.

To Harmony and me, she might as well have been a stranger.

No, even worse than a stranger - strangers don't inspire such hatred.

When she was pregnant with Harmony, she didn't want the baby. But the doctor told her that with her poor health, if she had an abortion, she might never be able to have children again.

So, she gave birth to Harmony.

And made Harmony and me bear the brunt of her resentment.

Harmony stood in the empty hallway, tilting her head back to wipe away her tears. "Dad's dead, and Mom doesn't want me either."

I reached out, wanting to wipe away her tears, but my hand passed right through her face.I nearly forgot, I'm now just a spirit.

As she was leaving, Melody turned back to tell Harmony: "Get your dad to come back quickly, some games aren't fun if they go on too long."

Harmony clutched the hem of her shirt: "Dad can't come back."

Melody returned home to find I still hadn't come back.

Usually, I would have prepared her favorite rice pudding waiting for her when she got home.

We had fought side by side for three years.

The number of trophies we had won together was countless.
