"Is my darling hungry? I made this protein shake for you. Be a good girl and finish it all, don't waste your hubby's efforts."
The nutritionist looked at us with envy. "That's right, Mr. Winters got up at five this morning to ask me how to make it."
Hearing about the nutritious meal, the image of Melody's lifeless body involuntarily flashed before my eyes. I had to resist the urge to knock over the bowl of porridge.
Because Melody was still waiting for me to take her home, away from this filthy place.
"Where is Melody's funeral being held?"
Brent saw blood seeping from my amputated arm again, his eyes filled with concern:
"Why don't you skip it? I'm worried your body can't handle it. Melody didn't like crowds, so I only invited a few people. We're planning to send her to the cemetery right after the service."
I pushed away his hand as he tried to comfort me by patting my head. "No, I have to go."
When we arrived at the dance studio where my daughter had passed away, I saw Genevieve supporting her daughter, laughing and chatting with my mother-in-law before the funeral.
Mother-in-law pulled out the family heirloom bracelet, passed down only to Winters family brides, and smilingly placed it on Genevieve's wrist.
Genevieve, noticing my presence, feigned reluctance: "Oh, I couldn't possibly accept this. Seraphina is here, why don't you give it to her?"
Mother-in-law immediately rolled her eyes at me, forcefully securing the family heirloom bracelet on Genevieve's wrist:
"How could her amputated arm possibly wear this precious family heirloom bracelet? She can't even bother to cover up the blood oozing out. It's absolutely revolting. Just look at our Genevieve, doesn't you look radiant in this vibrant red?"
"Well, well, still looking so glum? It's just one rotten egg gone. Why else would someone go crazy and kill her out of all these people? Must have done too many bad deeds. Karma always catches up with the wicked."
Mother-in-law believed that Brent and I had a shotgun wedding because I had seduced him.
She had never treated me kindly, even going so far as to call me a whore. When Melody tried to protect me, she would curse at both of us, calling us bastards.
In the past, Brent would have stood up for Melody and me, but now his eyes were filled only with Genevieve and their child, completely forgetting my existence.
Genevieve leaned against his chest, smiling as she said, "Sis Seraphina, hello there. This is my daughter Scarlett. My little darling shares a love of dancing with your daughter. Scarlett, come say hello to Auntie."
Scarlett hid behind Genevieve's back, saying, "I don't want to greet her! She's covered in blood and smells of medicine. She's dirty and stinks!"
Brent gently patted Scarlett's back. "Be good now, just bear with it. The funeral will be over soon. If you're bored, why don't you perform a little dance to cheer everyone up?"
He asked his assistant to bring out an outfit made by a top fashion designer, crafted with countless gold threads and pink gemstones. Every detail showcased exquisite beauty.
Everyone present gasped in awe.
Genevieve couldn't help but leap forward to give Brent a kiss. "It's so beautiful! Don't I get one?"
He nuzzled against Genevieve's lips, murmuring, "You've done such a great job with our daughter. You deserve a reward... come with me..."
As Brent was about to take her hand and leave, he suddenly remembered I was there. Looking a bit uncomfortable, he explained to me, "We're just going to discuss something. We'll be back soon."
Without waiting for my response, Brent guided her away.
