Prologue - Chapter 3 - Calamity's Presence

Varian closed his mouth with his hands as he was watching a very big creature with a body like a wolf; it has a pair of wings on his back, the eyes that filled with anger, eating a 6-year-old kid. In front of that thing was a woman who was crying loudly; Varian assumed that the woman was the kid's mom. "Hey, get out of there before that thing comes at you!" Varian shouted.

The whole village was in complete disaster at that time; there was fire everywhere in the village. There were also a lot of corpses lying on the floor; some had lost their limbs, and some were eaten completely by that beast. "She will get eaten if she stays in that place! I have to help her." But even if Varian wants to help the woman, his legs won't even move one inch. Varian's legs were trembling with fear until the beast had finally eaten the kid; the beast is now heading towards the woman.

"No, no, move your damn legs!" The wild beast is now completely in front of that woman. The woman spoke, "Give me my child back, you monster!" Without a thought, the woman grabbed a sharp broken glass and tried to stab the monster's neck. Surprisingly, it worked. The woman quickly released the weapon she had used earlier, and then the beast had fallen onto the ground. The kid's mom rushed to her daughter's corpse after seeing a chance to save her, not knowing that the kid was already dead.

"Shh, Mom's here, my little girl. That beast is already dead, so you can wake up now..." The kid's mom held her daughter's hand tightly to her chest. Tears streaming down her cheeks as she realised that the kid is already dead. "Of course, of course... Who would even survive after losing its head?" All Varian could do was just be a spectator of the scene that happened before his naked eyes. Varian's heart was also sinking at the moment when he saw the tragedy; however, Varian got a bad feeling about the monster. He took a glance where the beast had fallen, but it was nowhere to be seen.

"Hey! Run away from that place!" The voice of Varian seemed unnoticeable to her, no, to be exact. The woman never noticed his presence. With that, a large mouth that would fit 3 adult men with so many sharp teeth crunches the woman's body. The blood of the woman's body spread on the floor. Varian's heart was crumbling as he saw the woman get eaten by that wild beast. "No... This isn't happening. This is a dream, yes, a dream! I was just sleeping earlier." Varian took a final glance at the beast to confirm its disappearance. But the luck was not on his side that day. The beast turns its back and stares directly at Varian with an unchanging gaze.

Varian's heart stopped pounding at the moment the beast glared at his eyes. "No, no, I don't want to die!" Varian thought in his little mind. "Well, didn't you already make quite a mess here?" A sudden voice was heard not far away from the room that Varian was in. "A girl that has long red hair and is tall... Wait... Seraphis?!" Varian said as he took a glance out over his window.

Seraphis was holding a longsword at the moment when she was approaching the beast. With no fear in her eyes, she charged forward to launch the first attack. However, the beast has a skill that is very useful: regeneration. Unlike other beasts, this beast is very good at defending its body. The wounds that were caused by the woman earlier completely vanished as if they had never existed.

"Ha... This will be a tough fight," Seraphis sighed. The beast started making its move and attacking the young woman with his paws that have sharp claws and a tail that is 3 times stronger than the average adult man. "At this point, they are the same level! Whoever let the guard down first will die; it's all about stamina right now. I have to help her, but I also don't want to burden her. Think Varian, Think!" The battle has lasted for about 15 minutes now; Seraphis already seemed exhausted while the beast didn't get a single wound yet.

"Shit, it was a waste of time to fight this beast. It can regenerate any wounds; the only choice I have is to behead this beast in a single slash." Seraphis' thought in her mind was only that at the moment. The battle between sword and sharp claws was the only thing Varian could see through his window. The two of them fought like there was no tomorrow, but then one of the beast's sharp claws penetrated Seraphis' leg.

"At this point she would actually die!" Varian spoke. "Come on, leg, do something, please." "Fuck, it hurts so much!" Seraphis started coughing with blood because of the pressure. The wounds at Seraphis' leg make her agility decrease slightly. A sudden cry from a baby on the floor not very far from Seraphis' place was heard by the two of them. "What the hell? Is what I heard real, or is it my imagination? Ahh, screw it; I can't risk someone's life." With that, Seraphis charged forward in the direction of the noise she heard.

It doesn't matter how fast she is running; the beast will catch up to her in any way possible. "Come on, kid, where are you?" She continues her searching for the baby until her leg is completely tired. She then had no choice but to lay her body on the nearest tree to support her. Each second leaves a trace of fear in her eyes, as she knew she could die at any moment by that beast. "Is this the end for me?" Seraphis let out a small chuckle, as she seems to have finally been ready to accept her fate. Out of nowhere, a light bulb was thrown in the monster's direction. "Come here, you big fucker!" Seraphis's eyes were widened as she heard the voice.
