CHAPTER ONE

Detective Lucas had just received another award by the city council. He had again solved yet another case; the murder of the father of Vanessa, a six-year-old. The killer's name was Fletcher, a juvenile delinquent recently released from prison. "You have done it yet again Luke," his partner said to him as they discussed the issues of the city.

"I think all of this is just one big conspiracy," detective Lucas said, "This should somehow be connected to all the recent disappearances, think about it!" "You always think 20 steps ahead, why not just focus on your celebration, they are going to dedicate a whole street to you! do you know what people would do in order to have that same thing done for them?" "How many times will I repeat this," detective Lucas often said. "I am not a detective for all the awards, I am a detective to crack all the tough cases of this city."

The next day detective Lucas was heading to his office around 7:00am. When he got there, he noticed something on the floor, he switched on the light and he saw his partner lying on the ground, DEAD. "But this didn't make any sense!" he thought. There is no sign of a gun shot or any kind of stab wound. If he was poisoned that wouldn't make any sense because the last thing he ate was freshly picked vegetables from his own garden, so what killed him!" Detective Lucas quickly left. Just five minutes later, the police arrived after an anonymous tip to go to that location.

The police men at the scene went to the station to locate the suspected killer. When they got his location they dispatched several officers to find him and bring him back. By this time detective Lucas was close to the airport, he booked a flight to Singapore. "What is that car still doing there?" the detective thought, "It's been following me for the past hour," when the he was done with his booking, he checked the back of his car through his interactive display and saw something that agitated him. "That car has been following me all this while but there's no driver." The detective took a deep breath, shook a little and saw nothing when he checked again for the riderless car.

He checked the previous video he took of the riderless car. "It can't be!" he exclaimed. "There is no car in this video!" He could hear the sounds that the car in the video made but saw nothing! His mind quickly cleared up the moment he heard the police siren. He wanted to immediately stop his car and turn to the police for help but all thoughts of his vanished the moment he heard, "Detective Lucas Ross, you are under arrest for suspected murder," these words made him sure that for the first time ever, on a case as big as this he was on his own.

He knew he couldn't just turn himself in because that would mean the disappearance of hundreds of people, the murder of his partner, Harry, would forever remain a mystery. He wasn't going to let the person who killed his partner go unpunished, he was going to set things straight himself, even if he had to bend the law to so. He was approaching a mountain area, then he thought a little, "Perhaps if I just slow them down, then I can gain extra distance." He stopped his car, went up the side next to the mountain road and pushed some rocks down, immediately after, he got into his car and fled the scene.

The police got to that area and heard rumbling noises, they went to check out the rocks and after their inspection, a series of events took place after which all the rocks went tumbling on the road. "Well that means we have to reroute," said one of the officers, "I'm sure all this was caused by that detective, I never really trusted that man," said Jason, an officer at the scene.

Detective Lucas was approaching the airport, when he got there he saw something that shocked him to his core, Jason, a police officer, was there as an aviation officer. He saw a billboard, with his pictures on them, "How did they set all this up already?" he thought but didn't have time to dwell on them. He was quickly withdrawn from his thoughts when he heard an announcement saying, "The man seen in these photos is wanted, if seen, please report to the police".

He felt the pressure, he had to somehow get through aviation, but even if he did all the people would still see his face in the airport or on the plane. He didn't know what to do. Suddenly, he saw an aviation officer giving him hand signals to come over. He thought he was caught and he went over, but what happened surprised him, the aviation officer offered him help.

He said, "I don't know, but I have this gut feeling that you are innocent, you have done so much for this city and state in general." He snuck the detective through aviation and not long after, he was about to board the plane when he heard a group of men call out, "So you have decided to work with a serial killer Luke!," "It didn't make any sense," he thought, they kept calling the aviation officer Donald Climber a serial killer that had been terrorizing the state.

The police men at the scene didn't hesitate to gun down the aviation officer, before he departed, he said, "Damn, We had waited all the days of our lives for this moment, all the time we spent doing anything at all, to end like this, what is the need for power or riches but to satisfy one's self, but what does it mean to truly 'satisfy one's self'? does it mean to reach the standards of everyone around you or your personal standards? either way no matter how your life turns out, we all share the same faith, life was given beautifully, only to be taken so gruesomely." He took another breath and was gone.
