Chapter 26

Nadia's POV

Kael's revelation has my eyes wide open in their sockets.

So all the while, Landon has had affiliation with another pack, knowing full well that it's a crime against the pack, and he is not just another pack mate, he's the beta, second only to Alpha Vance.

He must really not have wanted me to know this.

And for a whole pack to agree to make a deal with just a single member of another pack, it does not spell something good from either party.

Landon is dancing with the devils, and I'm his unfortunate mate who has no choice in anything.

"You look so lost in thought I'm sure you have imagined all that has happened till this moment." Kaels voice interrupts my reflections.

His not-so-humorous statement somehow has me smiling like a fool, he is actually not wrong.

Landon in conjunction with Kael's elder brother are cooking up something, what could it be?

"What do you think Landon's proposal is?" I asked Kaels, testing him even though I know he is probably as clueless as I am, maybe even more.

"Come on." He starts, "You think if I knew that, I wouldn't have said that?" Kael looks at me in disbelief. "I'm here on a self-mission, well I and a few other disadvantaged wolves, we are suffering for reasons we know not."

"Alright, alright." I say, putting off whatever it is he wanted to say again. "But how did you know I am his mate?" I asked him, I think he would answer me, we are becoming friends ourselves.

"As you may or may not know…" he starts, tarrying, "I have been kicked out of the pack house, my jealous elder brother couldn't stand having his fellow Alpha blood mate so close, so he took the opportunity of my refusing Landon to kick me out as someone who did not want the packs, progress." He tells, with the blanket face I've ever seen. "Fortunately for me, I have my sympathizers, some of whom are so close to the Alpha that I get backhanded confidential information through them." Kael strikes me as one who has resigned to fate. So why is he here in the dead of the night, with his enemy's mate?

"Why are you doing this?" I asked him point blank. "I have been trying to find motive in all you've been saying, but we know the whole 'redemption for my pack' thing is horse shit. Why are you here?" I faced him squarely.

"I see…" He starts, sounding like an old sage. "You are a smart one. Little wonder you both were made for yourselves. I am actually here for the purpose which I stated, it's just it gets a little personal at some point."

"You mean you had reasons to deal directly with Landon?" I asked him, trying to get the full grasp of what he said.

"Yes, unfortunately, I did. Not by choice though, I had to." He says, his voice sounds strained. Even in the dark, I can see him reflecting on whatever experience it might be.

"I understand that. No one should have anything to do with someone like Landon by choice." I say, somewhat disheartened.

"Let's just say we have a score to settle him and I. You would have been the perfect retaliation, but he apparently does not hold you in such high esteem and even if he bothered, it would be for his own ego and what others will say." Kael says, speaking so fast, like he can't wait to be done.

"So a woman is involved." I asked him, smiling a sly smile.

"She is not just 'a woman'" I know I had gotten to the point where it would be hard to get many words out of his as before.

I am going to give clues and let him lead the way.

"It's not surprising and not unheard of." I say to Kael, in a pretentious bid to undermine whatever Landon has done to him that made him take all this trouble and come into the territory of another pack.

"I hope you feel this same way when you hear of the things I would do to him if he ever steps foot in Moonlily again." He does not sound gentle anymore. His body is tense and his breath is quickening, blowing out hot air as he rings his teeth against each other.

"Well that would depend on what it is you plan to do, wouldn't it?" I am low-key looking forward to when someone, anyone, would put Landon a little bit back in his place, just maybe he would begin to appreciate the things in his life, even me.

"I think my job here is done." Kael stands up, wiping the dirt of the cold floor off him.

I'm seeing him full length for the last time, and he actually looks quite tall, far taller than Landon, he also looks bulkier too.

How could someone with this physique and grace get bullied in his own pack?

"I'd love to see your wolf." I say to him as he catches me staring at him.

"Got any more silly requests that probably would not be granted?" He asked, with humor in his voice.

"Yeah, what were you expecting?" I asked him back too, laughing.

"Well you are going to have to ask my butt print over there beside you, 'cause I'm already gone." He picks up the collar he used on me hours ago, and cleans it against his clothes.

I got up from the floor, not bothering to perform all the theatrics he did.

"We could still make your revenge count." I told him.

"How?" He asks, trying to conceal his enthusiasm.

"Integrity or common sense?" I ask him, still testing the waters.

"To everyone, I have neither." He replies to me, as the smart mouth he is.

"How about you?" As we continue the small talk, I feel my boldness grow exponentially.

"Could you please propose what you wanted already?" He asks, getting impatient.

"I want to sleep with you." I say to him, releasing a breath I never knew I was holding.

Without one more word, I close the gap between Kael and I.

He closes his eyes like he doesn't want to see it happen.

I take the collar in his hand and dump it back on the floor.

Starting with his shirt buttons, I snap off the first two before gently unbuttoning the rest.

He staggers backwards, but makes no further show of resistancNadia's POV
