Chapter 27

Talia's POV.

It's sometime between late morning and early midday when I wake up.

I feel a little better, except for the blunt nagging pain in the right side of my head.

I can feel that my wounds are less raw than they felt before I slept.

The pillow still feels a little wet from my tears.

I'm beginning to question the Moon goddess for granting me another life if it's still going to be rocky, maybe even rockier.

"What's the point?" I catch myself saying out loud while sitting up.

"'Cause maybe you still have a mission to execute?" Kael's gruff voice says, he is standing by the door, leaning on the carved wooden frame.

"Do I look fit in any way?" I wish that came out a little friendlier the moment I said it. Hopefully, he's less touchy now and would not take offense.

"Nobody said the time was now." He says, smirking widely, making me feel dumb. "People are usually reborn for a mission. Isla was such a strong and resilient wolf. Your coming back in her body means that you have a very great ordeal ahead of you." He continued, like one reading into the future.

"How do you know that? I'm finding it difficult to reason with you." I'm too scared to believe him even if it is true. I don't want to believe that. I wish he hadn't said it. I wish I didn't hear it.

I get scared as the seconds pass, my heart beats faster and irregularly.

"It's not so hard to guess. It's always what happens." He responds to me with a casual disregard.

"Is there any clue as to what it might be?" Since he seems to have all the answers, I hope he has this too.

"Nope. None at all. A few informed guesses can be made from your past." At this point, he is looking at me like he expects me to start narrating the story of my life from when I was conceived, up till the point when whatever happened. It annoys me so freaking much, and if I knew it all I probably would not tell him, but I have no memory of anything ever going wrong with me. Last I remember was having my dream wedding to my dream mate, Alpha Vance.

Plus he is trying to piece together the shards in the name of a puzzle that my future is looking like.

"What are you expecting me to say?" I asked him. We've been staring at each other for over a minute, each with pursed lips.

"Something that could give us a clue?" He says like he is trying to remind me of something I had forgotten.

"You think if I had the faintest idea about what is going on, I would still be here?" I break eye contact and stare straight at the wall opposite me.

"You know…" He starts, walking towards me. "We should actually start over."

Kael drags the seat he got up from hours ago to my bedside and sits directly in front of me. His hairy leg brushing against mine, evoking a million sensations.

"Hi, I'm Talia." I plaster a plastic smile on my face.

"Nice meeting you young lady, can't remember seeing you around here." He continues in the same sarcastic tone with which I started.

"Oh, that! I fell from the sky and was picked up by a hot stranger." it's all jokes, but I really did not want to describe him that to his hearing, it would just be fuelling his already mighty ego.

"Oh really?" He says, with a sinister smile on his face. "Hi, I'm the dashingly hot stranger.''He extends his hands towards me after which I briefly place my hands in his and take them out.

"I never said dashing…" I roll my eyes at him and touch my hands under each other.

"It does not matter." He cuts me off and playfully shuns my objection. "I'm Kael, one of the two sons of the late Alpha of Moonlily, with alpha blood running in me." I could hear all the infused pride his statement had.

On the other hand, I'm surprised that a wolf with Alpha blood would be living so far away in isolation, as a rogue, without a pack or people. He must have a very exciting story to tell.

"I met you under the most unfortunate of circumstances, but it was nice to meet you." I say, wrapping up the pretentious introduction.

"That is one way to put it." Kael crosses his leg and sucks his teeth, making a very annoying sound, not so annoying, but irritating because it's coming from him.

"Have you fixed the date you plan on kicking me out." I asked him directly.

"Nah. I'm not doing that. You're barely fit enough to feel your two feet, talk less of standing on them, it would be cruel of me to do that."

"Or you are enjoying the company?" I peer into his eyes, laughing and making him uncomfortable.

"I won't deny." He says sharply, something tells me he's not done with all he wants to say.

There's silence for a minute, because he looks like he's in his head, and I don't know what to say.

"I didn't mean all I said earlier, about you…about Isla's body…" He's stuttering and I can already guess what he wants to say.

"It's alright. Quite mature for a first reaction, if I may say. I'm usually worse, I think."

"How are you so cool about it?" He asked me. "Isla would not have been, she definitely would have reacted worse. Thank the moon goddess you didn't also get that."

"Nahh." I say laughing, "my personality is all me." I still do not fully know who I am, or even what I look like, but flaring up is not a me thing.

"You say you have Alpha blood in you?" It's probably the worst way to start a conversation, but I might as well ask him while it's still fresh.

"You wanna know if our kid is going to have it too?" He asks me back, with a straight face.

"What do you mean?" A million thoughts are running through my head. What the hell does he mean?
