The night air was crisp, but Riya's skin still tingled with warmth. The sounds of the city surrounded her, distant honking, the chatter of people spilling out of the theater, Anu's voice beside her, but none of it registered.
Her mind was trapped in that moment. That man.
The weight of his touch still lingered at her waist, like a phantom sensation refusing to fade. His fingers had been strong yet careful, steadying her before she could hit the ground. His body had been so close, his presence overwhelming. Even now, her breath felt unsteady, as if she had run a mile without moving an inch.
Who was he?
"Riya?" Anu's voice cut through her thoughts, snapping her back to reality.
She turned, blinking rapidly. "Huh? What?"
Anu raised a brow, smirking. "You've been weirdly quiet. Let me guess, still thinking about 'mystery man'?"
Riya scoffed, quickening her steps as they moved toward the exit. "As if."
But her best friend wasn't buying it. "Oh, come on," Anu teased, falling into step beside her. "You were practically melting back there. The way you stared at him? Riya, if that wasn't a 'main character falling in love at first sight' moment, I don't know what is."
Riya groaned. "You watch too many dramas."
"And you don't?"
She had no comeback for that.
"Fine," Riya muttered. "I'll admit he was… interesting."
"'Interesting'?" Anu burst out laughing. "Girl, just say he was ridiculously, unfairly, out-of-this-world hot."
Riya rolled her eyes. "You're exaggerating."
But was she?
The image of him was burned into her mind. Tall. Lean but strong. Midnight-dark hair. Those piercing eyes. They weren't just dark; they were deep, like the night sky itself, infinite and unreadable. And his face, sharp, sculpted, like he belonged in a museum, not walking around in a city theater.
He looked like he didn't belong here at all.
And yet, there he was.
"Okay, maybe he was... a little good-looking," Riya admitted reluctantly.
Anu gasped dramatically. "Oh my god, she admits it!"
Riya rolled her eyes again, but she couldn't shake the feeling inside her.
His words echoed in her head. "I know that I'm handsome. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll make my way."
The audacity. The confidence.
And yet, instead of being annoyed, a strange thrill shot through her spine.
Why was she reacting like this? Why did a stranger, someone she had seen for less than a minute, leave such an impact?
"Riya, you're doing it again," Anu singsonged.
Riya blinked. "Doing what?"
"Spacing out and thinking about him."
"I AM NOT... " She cut herself off when she saw Anu's knowing smirk. "Ugh, whatever. It's not like I'll ever see him again."
But as they stepped onto the bustling streets, a small voice in her head whispered...
"Are you sure about that?"
