Chapter 14

By the time Bai Luyu finished handling the situation and returned to the bar, Nan Song was nowhere to be seen. Upon closer inspection, he spotted her fiery red figure bouncing on the dance floor.

Once she slipped into the dance floor, Nan Song instantly became the center of attention. Men surrounded her, cheering, shouting, and whistling wildly!

"My goodness..."

It had been years since Bai Luyu had seen his little sister act so wild. Under the pulsating music and psychedelic lights, Nan Song, in her red dress, swayed and twirled on the dance floor, her curvaceous figure impossible to ignore.

A man nearby, who had been watching Nan Song while drinking, handed his bottle to someone beside him and slipped into the dance floor. He started dancing closely with Nan Song, his hand sliding from her waist to her butt.

"What the hell!" Bai Luyu couldn't stand seeing his sister being taken advantage of. Just as he stepped onto the dance floor, he heard a collective gasp.

Nan Song was faster than him. She grabbed the man's wrist, flipped him over with a shoulder throw, and then slapped him across the face. "You dare touch a tiger's butt? You must have a death wish!"

Apart from the thumping music, the surroundings fell silent. Everyone stared in shock at the woman who had just been dazzlingly beautiful but had suddenly turned fierce.

The dance floor queen was also a martial arts master!

Nan Song, fueled by alcohol, was about to kick the man again when Bai Luyu grabbed her and carried her off the dance floor. He set her down on a bar stool and poked her forehead. "Are you here to cause trouble?"

"Brother," Nan Song's eyes were hazy, "was I charming just now?"

Bai Luyu sighed, "Charming? Extremely! Didn't you see how those men looked at you? Like wolves seeing meat, they wanted to devour you!"

"Then why doesn't Yu Jinwen like me?"

Drunk and unguarded, Nan Song's usually strong face now looked utterly desolate and sorrowful.

"You know, I really don't have big ambitions. My biggest dream was to meet someone I love and become a good wife and mother. But unfortunately, he doesn't care. I was married to him for three years, faithfully playing the role of a wife, but he never touched me, never even looked at me properly. Tell me, what's wrong with me?"

Bai Luyu's heart ached for his sister. He reached out and patted her head. "Nonsense. My little sister is the best girl in the world. If he doesn't cherish you, it's his loss."

"Yeah, it's his loss." Nan Song forced a smile. "So from now on, I'll never change myself for a man to fit his preferences. I'm going back to being myself—the brave, independent, and proud Nan Song."

In the apartment, Zhuo Xuan was applying ointment to Yu Jinwen's injured hand with a cotton swab, her face filled with concern. "Does it hurt?"

Yu Jinwen shook his head, reaching up to touch her swollen cheek. "Does it hurt for you?"

Zhuo Xuan gave a gentle smile. "It did hurt, but now that you're touching it, it doesn't anymore."

Yu Jinwen sighed softly. "You've suffered."

"It's the suffering my future mother-in-law gave me. No matter how much it hurts, I have to endure it, right?"

Zhuo Xuan leaned into Yu Jinwen's embrace, understandingly comforting him. "Jin Ge, you mustn't fight with your mother because of me. That would be my fault. Actually, she doesn't dislike me; it's just because of my aunt that she's hostile toward me. But my aunt is my aunt, and I am me. I believe that sincerity can move even the hardest hearts. As long as we truly love each other, she'll accept us one day..."

There were only two days left until their wedding. Nothing could go wrong!

As for Yu Fengjiao, if she wanted to die, let her die.

Yu Jinwen gave a faint "hmm." His mother's resolute attitude gave him a strong intuition that the upcoming wedding might not go as smoothly as expected.

He gently pushed Zhuo Xuan away. "How's your health? Are you okay?"

Zhuo Xuan was startled, then coughed weakly twice before smiling. "I'm fine. Medical technology is so advanced now. Maybe after I marry you, my stomach cancer will heal on its own."

"Don't talk nonsense. Illnesses don't heal without treatment."

Yu Jinwen said, "I've already contacted the best doctor. He'll arrive in North City soon and will examine you."

Zhuo Xuan's eyes flickered, and she cooed, "Oh, there's no rush. You know how much I hate hospitals. Just hearing about doctors makes me nervous. Let's not talk about this. When are we going to get our marriage certificate?"

Yu Jinwen paused. "There are still some procedures with Lu Nansong that need to be completed. We can get the certificate after the wedding."

"Oh, okay then."

Zhuo Xuan didn't want to appear too eager. She transformed back into a coy little woman, wrapping her arms around his neck and subtly blowing air onto his face. "Jin Ge, are you staying tonight?"

"Not tonight. There's still some work I need to handle."

Yu Jinwen gently pulled her arms away, his tone neither light nor heavy as he asked, "That post on Yu's Group's official account this morning—did you ask the operations department to post it?"

"Yes, you promised me. You said you'd announce our marriage to the world."

Yu Jinwen's eyes turned cold. "Zhuo Xuan, I never promised you that."

Hearing the chill in his voice and him calling her by her full name, Zhuo Xuan's heart skipped a beat. She glanced at his expression, sensing the coldness emanating from him, and didn't dare to act coy anymore. She quickly got off him and knelt in front of him.

"You... you didn't refuse, so I thought you agreed... I'm sorry, Jin Ge. Did I cause trouble for you?"

Seeing the fear on her face, Yu Jinwen's dark, intense eyes softened. He said gently, "A small trouble. It can be handled. But in the future, try not to interfere with my work, okay?"

"Mm, I promise! There won't be a next time!"

Zhuo Xuan raised three fingers in a vow, her face adorably innocent.

Yu Jinwen's pupils contracted suddenly, reminded of how Lu Nansong, when she first married him, had eagerly tried to wipe his body. After he had yelled at her in frustration, she had raised three fingers just like this, trying to appease him.

Damn it! What was wrong with him? Why did he keep thinking about that woman out of nowhere!
