Chapter 15

Yu Jinwen stepped out of the apartment, the cool night air somewhat soothing his restless heart.

He Zhao hurried forward to open the rear car door, standing respectfully to the side. Pausing mid-step, Yu Jinwen demanded, "Any progress tracing Lu Nansong's whereabouts?"

"Not yet..."

"Useless!" Yu Jinwen snapped coldly.

The assistant hung his head low, experiencing the most humiliating moment of his career. Knowing his boss detested excuses, he still forced an explanation: "Madam's tracks seem to have been deliberately erased by someone with superior hacking skills. Our team can't match their expertise."

Yu Jinwen's eyes darkened. Who would want to conceal Lu Nansong's movements? What exactly was she hiding?

As he settled into the car, He Zhao presented hospital records. "Two suspicious findings from the municipal hospital investigation."

"Speak," Yu Jinwen ordered, flipping through documents.

"First, Lu Nansong's name appears in our original marriage investigation records as nursing staff, but it's missing from the hospital's official registry." He displayed conflicting documents where only "Lu Nansong" appeared in one set.

"Temporary staff?" Yu Jinwen speculated.

"Possibly a last-minute replacement. Current nurses barely remember her except as 'the lucky one'." He Zhao hesitated before adding, "...for marrying you."

Yu Jinwen's brow furrowed. "Get to the point."

"Second, your life-saving surgeon wasn't hospital staff. A Dr. Grace was specially transferred from abroad for your operation then immediately recalled - as if her entire purpose was saving you."

Yu Jinwen assumed his grandfather had arranged this. "Connection between these findings?"

"None apparent," He Zhao admitted.

Yu Jinwen threw the files at him. "Worthless assistant," he muttered, dialing a number angrily.

The call connected to labored breathing. "Injured?" Yu Jinwen tensed.

"Just got thrown by a feisty girl - shoulder toss and a slap," chuckled the voice of his comrade Fu Yu. "Nanjiang girls are firecrackers. I like it."

Yu Jinwen ignored the banter. "Why in Nancheng?"

"Scouting land for my father's equestrian club. Join me?"

"Fine. I need someone traced."

"Who?"

"My ex-wife."

Fu Yu choked on his drink. "Ex-wife? You serious?"

"Just do it."

"No photos?"

"She disliked cameras."

"Must've been ugly."

"My wife wasn't ugly!" Yu Jinwen retorted childishly, making He Zhao facepalm in the front seat.

Fu Yu howled with laughter. "Still defensive? Sounds like unresolved feelings!"

After sending basic information, Fu Yu received it in his hotel elevator. As doors closed, a familiar fiery woman stumbled in - the same "wildcat" who'd thrown him earlier, now drunkenly clutching a man's arm.

"P-pervert!" she slurred, pointing accusingly while adjusting her black blazer. "I'm n-not some... regular beauty!"

Fu Yu smirked at her drunken bravado. Her companion, Bai Qi, dragged her inside. When she tripped, Fu Yu caught her arm - only for her to vomit spectacularly down his sleeve.

"Damn it!" he froze in horror. "Why did I touch a drunk?!"
