Chapter 192: Investigators from Abroad

They were waiting for more members of this ghoul organization to show up, making it easier to take them all down in one go.

That was exactly why Yoshimura Eto and Uruka Minami continued putting effort into their act.

However, at that moment, the sound of a fight suddenly erupted from another nearby alley.

"What's going on? Did we walk into an ambush?!"

"No! That's the boss's position, and it doesn't sound like many people are fighting!"

The attention of these ghouls was immediately drawn away.

Eto and Minami also stopped acting.

A pink bikaku kagune instantly pierced through the abdomen of one of the ghouls, it was, of course, Minami's kagune.

She let out a chuckle, and a pair of crimson ghoul eyes surfaced on her face. Her smile took on a slightly unhinged edge.

"You! You really are with the TSC!…"

That ghoul turned to flee, but his words cut off mid-sentence, because the sight before him had frightened him stiff.

Though Eto didn't fully enter her kakuja form, numerous kagune sprouted from her multiple kakuhou, simultaneously striking several ghouls.

Her kagune were not only numerous and vast in area, but their forms were both abstract and terrifying, only just one glance would send chills down anyone's spine.

The surrounding ghouls were quickly eliminated by Eto and Minami.

Meanwhile, Uchiha Byakuya and Arima Kishou had already moved into action. They had already reached the roof of a low building and were now looking down at the alley from which the combat noise had originated.

What they saw was a familiar face, a half-kakuja, and several ghoul corpses strewn all over the ground.

That familiar face was none other than Mo Mo, the president of the Ghoul Research Club back at Kamii University.

He held a black, sword-shaped quinque in his hand and was engaged in fierce battle with the half-kakuja.

That half-kakuja was likely the boss of the ghoul organization.

Even so, Mo Mo wasn't at much of a disadvantage, in fact, the tide of the battle seemingly favored him over the ghoul.

"So it seems… his true identity is a ghoul investigator from abroad…"

Uchiha Byakuya spoke coolly upon seeing this.

Anyone capable of wielding a quinque and holding their own against a half-kakuja level ghoul, possibly even coming close to dominating the fight, could only be a ghoul investigator from an official major organization.

Every major country had its own professional system of ghoul investigators. Naturally other countries couldn't rely on the CCG for their own issues, that would be strange.

At present, only Tokyo's "CCG" had changed its name and ceased using the "ghoul investigator" title. Other nations continued as usual.

"Looks like we won't be needed."

Arima still held a quinque case in his hand, but had never opened it.

Given the current situation, that half-kakuja was probably doomed to lose.

Unless the half-kakuja looked like he was about to escape, Arima had no intention of actually stepping in.

Byakuya was thinking the same. Why step in when you could just enjoy the show?

Just then, Mo Mo seized an opportunity and slashed open the outer shell of the half-kakuja with a heavy sword strike, landing a fatal blow to the kakuhou.

That strike completely disabled the ghoul, sending him crashing to his knees.

Mo Mo then delivered a clean finishing blow, killing him outright without hesitation.

No matter how you looked at it, this wasn't some average exchange student just here to learn.

At the same time, Mo Mo also noticed Uchiha Byakuya and Arima Kishou watching from the rooftop.

He promptly smiled and gave them a small wave.

Byakuya immediately leapt down from the rooftop.

Arima naturally followed right after.

"Mo Mo-san, I didn't expect to run into you in such a place at a time like this."

Byakuya spoke up right away.

"Sorry, it looks like I stole your credit."

Mo Mo said somewhat awkwardly.

It was obvious that Uchiha and Arima were here on an actual official mission.

He hadn't even realized they were nearby till just now.

"It's fine,"

Byakuya calmly replied. "Say, you're definitely not just an ordinary exchange student, right? That quinque of yours can't be below S-rated. You're a ghoul investigator from abroad, aren't you?"

"Yes, I knew I wouldn't be able to hide it from you two. Here's my identification."

Mo Mo then rummaged trough his pockets and showd 5hem his credentials.

Since it's illegal for ordinary civilians to carry a quinque, he needed to truly prove his identity as a ghoul investigator to avoid any potential trouble.

Byakuya examined the ID Mo Mo handed over and it indeed identified him as a ghoul investigator from some province of China, and not just any investigator, but a Special Class Investigator.

According to the original series' setting, promotions for ghoul investigators outside of Tokyo's CCG were actually a lot easier.

For example, back when Tatara led the "Red Tongue Company," many ghoul investigators were dispatched by China, and only with the help of Kousuke Houji from the CCG were they finally able to crush the Red Tongue Company.

That battle alone had cost them over a hundred investigators, including fifteen Special Class Investigators and thirty Associate Special Class Investigators.

That alone showed just how lenient China's evaluation system for ghoul investigator ranks actually was.

After all, the entire CCG only had a handful of Special Class Investigators. If that level of casualty had happened at the CCG, it would've taken someone like the peak-version of the "One-Eyed Owl," with power beyond even SSS+, to cause it.

And the strongest fighters of the Red Tongue Company were only SS-rated Tatara and his brother. Besides Arima Kishou, even the CCG's Special Class Investigators would've had a tough time dealing with them.

Of course, this didn't mean that Mo Mo's Special Class Investigator status was entirely nonsensical.

Being able to decisively defeat that half-kakuja just now was proof that at least his strength was legitimate.

"To be a Special Class Investigator at such a young age, you have some great potential."

Byakuya offered direct praise with calm face.

Mo Mo was at most around twenty years old. Becoming a Special Class Investigator at that age undoubtedly made him a prodigy.

Now Byakuya also finally understood why Mo Mo had dared to join a ghoul research club filled entirely with ghouls, because with his strength, he had no need to fear any ghoul who was still just a university student.

"You flatter me. Compared to you two, I still have a very long way to go, and my Special Class rank doesn'to really carry the same weight."

Mo Mo replied modestly.

Though modest, he really did feel he was still far behind the two of them.

Besides, both of them were even younger than he was.

At that moment, Eto and Minami also arrived.

They had already taken care of the ghouls on their end, but when they noticed that Byakuya and Arima had suddenly disappeared, they figured they must have headed toward the source of the earlier disturbance.

"Isn't this our Classmate? That noise earlier… was it you?"
