Chapter 1: It Won't Work

"Ahh, finally that lecture was so boring," I said, feeling a wave of relief.

"Finally, should we get something to eat on our way home?" Levi asked.

"Sure," I replied, giving a big smile.

Levi chuckled. "Why are you giving me that face for?"

"Why are you acting like you don't know me?"

He shrugged. "Whatever."

We started walking toward our apartment, I was too tired to talk about anything so I just walked, my posture as bad as it could be. As we were talking, two beautiful girls passed.

"They were beautiful," Levi said.

"Should I try?" I asked briefly.

"Try what?"

"I'm gonna go talk to the black-haired one," I said, and I went back while Levi waited quietly.

"Hi," I said, approaching from behind and smiling slightly.

"Ah!" the girl yelped. Her friend smiled and gave me a glance then looked straight ahead.

"I'm sorry, did I scare you?" I widened my eyes, then squinted slowly. She didn't stop so I continued walking with her.

"A bit. Is that how you're supposed to approach a woman?" she teased, not even looking at me.

"Not quite. I hoped it would go better," I said, changing my voice to a dull, monotonous tone.

"How so?" she asked briefly.

"Kidding. I don't see it going better than this," I replied, switching back to a playful voice.

"What's your name?" I asked.

"Yvonne," she said.

"Very classy, huh?" I teased.

"Thank you."

Well that's annoying I thought to myself. "So, I love you," I said, getting serious and changing my tone again.

"What the…" she said, finally looking at me, her eyes widening as she caught on.

"Not really. I just wanted you to look at me," I smiled and squinted.

"I got that," she said, sounding a bit annoyed.

"I do really like you, though. So, can I get your number?" I asked, knowing the answer.

"Sadly, no," she said, looking straight ahead.

"Damn, that's harsh. I thought I had a chance," I said, disappointed, breaking my posture completely. I turned back. "Well, bye, i guess. She didn't respond at all.

I went back to Levi; he was on his phone, sitting on a bench.

"Well, that took long. We got any results?" he asked.

"We didn't, but I did," I said jokingly.

He made an indifferent face. I got close to him and whispered, "Rejectus."

"Didn't think you had a chance at all; surprised it took you that long."

"Awww, when did I become such a pitiful boy?" I said, making a fake angry face.

"What did you talk about?"

"Forget it; this doesn't matter." I got serious.

"What's up with all this all of a sudden?" he questioned as we started walking.

"It doesn't matter, because she'll be mine," I said with determination, putting on a calm expression and giving a little smile.

"What do you mean?" he asked. I continued walking.

"Hey, what do you mean by that? What are you going to do?"

I started smiling more slowly and continued to ignore him.
