I sat across from Lena at the wooden table in the small, cozy pizzeria, filled with the smell of cheese and dough.
"He played you well," Lena teased me.
"Oh, damn him," I said.
"Gotta give him his credit for that, Yvonne."
"Sure, damn him," I responded angrily.
"Why are you so annoyed by it anyway? He—" Lena leaned back as she saw the waiter coming.
"Ready to order, ladies?" asked the waiter, a tall young man with a friendly smile and a notepad.
"Can I get an 8-inch cheese pizza, please?" I ordered.
"Perfect, and for you?"
"A 16-inch pepperoni pizza, please. I'm not quite hungry right now," said Lena; she tends to eat a bit too much.
"Right away."
"So, what were you saying?" I asked.
"I was just wondering why this bothers you so
much. It's a normal thing," she replied.
"I don't know, maybe because all of it was planned, and you know I don't like being played with like that," I said.
"What are you trying to say?"
"Wasn't it obvious? Scaring me and everything from the very start," I explained to her.
"That justifies it a little. I liked the guy anyway," she responded.
"Why didn't you take his number then?" I asked, slapping the table slightly.
"I didn't interfere like you told me not to in those situations," she said, giving me a disappointed look.
"True, sorry, I'm extremely annoyed," I apologized.
"I do not see him giving up, though," Lena said.
"What?"
"If it was really planned, he won't give up that easily, will he?" she said, giving me a serious look.
I sighed and looked out the window. "Just forget it, let me calm down."
"Here's your order." The waiter returned after some time with a cheerful demeanor, placing down the plates with cheese and pepperoni pizzas, steaming slightly.
"Are you looking for a boyfriend anyway?" Lena asked, starting the conversation again as she took a slice of pizza and folded it.
"I don't know. I mean, I do, but not someone like him if that's where you're trying to get to," I said, leaning in to take a slice of pizza.
"That's something, I guess," she said, taking a big bite.
"You really want me to be with that guy?" I asked in a joking way.
"Hell yeah."
"I can't believe you. Just let me eat my pizza in peace."
