Chapter 19: The Classroom

After receiving the new textbooks and listening to Hiruzen Sarutobi's opening speech under the guidance of Kaoru Iwabe, Veigar found himself blending into the crowd of students when he overheard the hushed conversation between Shizune Kato and Rin Nohara.

"Rin, did you hear?"

"Huh?"

"Kakashi became a Chūnin."

"Kakashi... a Chūnin?"

Rin Nohara was stunned by Shizune Kato's words, her mouth opening in disbelief, looking utterly adorable in her shock.

"Shocking, right? I was just as surprised when I found out yesterday!"

Seeing Rin's reaction, Shizune Kato flicked her black hair with a smile.

"So, Shizune, do you know anything else about Kakashi?"

"Tell me, please?"

Rin lowered her voice as she spoke to Shizune.

"Rin, you're blushing~"

Shizune smirked mischievously, whispering back.

As if her thoughts had been exposed, Rin's face—originally not showing much change—quickly turned a deep shade of red.

"Shizune, you..."

At that moment, Obito Uchiha, who had also overheard their conversation, interrupted with a sour expression, the very picture of someone unable to accept an uncomfortable truth.

"What's the big deal? So what if he became a Chūnin?"

"I'll definitely be stronger than Kakashi in the future!"

What was originally a private chat between two girls was suddenly disrupted by Obito, completely irritating Shizune. She turned to him and yelled,

"Obito! Don't you know that eavesdropping is extremely rude?"

Obito, looking utterly unfazed, scoffed, "Tch, as if I even wanted to hear it."

Their argument quickly drew the attention of their classmates. Feeling self-conscious under all the stares, Rin quickly slipped away without saying a word.

"Rin, wait for me!"

Shizune immediately chased after her but still found time to glare at Obito before running off.

"This is all your fault! Hmph!"

Meanwhile, Veigar, who had also heard about Kakashi's promotion, was lost in thought.

"He's already a Chūnin?"

Veigar had always known that Kakashi Hatake would reach Chūnin at the age of six. However, experiencing it firsthand was an entirely different feeling.

After all, Kakashi was only six years old.

Veigar himself had also awakened chakra, just like Kakashi. That was precisely why this moment felt so shocking.

It was a testament to Kakashi's incredible talent. Even with all the resources of the Hatake clan at his disposal, reaching Chūnin at six years old was an almost impossible feat.

Throughout Konoha's history, aside from Kakashi, no one else had ever achieved this.

If Veigar had to name someone in Konoha whose talent could compare to Kakashi's, only two names came to mind:

Shisui Uchiha, who should have already been born by now, and Itachi Uchiha, who had yet to be born.

But without the Sharingan's bloodline limit, even those two might fall slightly short of Kakashi's genius.

The academy bell rang, signaling the start of class.

Dressed in a Chūnin vest and holding a thick textbook under his arm, Kaoru Iwabe walked into the classroom.

"Class is starting now."

He placed the book on the podium and announced.

Seeing that everyone was ready, he smiled warmly before beginning his lecture.

As he spoke, he grew increasingly animated, his words coming out in a passionate torrent.

Seated below, Veigar diligently took notes. In contrast, Obito Uchiha looked as if he was about to doze off.

After covering the key points, Kaoru turned to the class.

"Students, did you all remember the proper techniques for using kunai and shuriken that I just explained?"

"Yessss~!"

The entire class responded in unison. Obito, startled from his drowsiness, snapped back to attention.

"Good. If you all remembered, that's great."

Kaoru nodded in satisfaction before adding with a smile,

"Now, let's see if you truly understood."

"Obito, stand up."

Kaoru had noticed that Obito hadn't been paying attention during class, so he deliberately called him out.

Obito nervously stood up, looking at Kaoru's smiling face while internally panicking.

Last semester, he had suffered quite a bit under Kaoru's teaching.

But Kaoru had no intention of letting him off the hook.

"Shuriken are commonly used ninja tools with decent accuracy at close range."

"Now, Obito, tell me—what factors influence the lethality of a shuriken?"

Hearing the question, Obito immediately perked up, answering confidently,

"Of course, it's how sharp the shuriken is!"

"Kaoru-sensei, that was way too easy! I knew the answer right away!"

Obito looked smug, puffing out his chest like a proud peacock.

However, Kaoru's next words left him completely stunned.

"Aside from sharpness, what else?"

"Huh? There's more?"

Obito stood frozen, as if he had turned to stone.

The entire class burst into laughter.

Not far from Obito, Rin Nohara softly reminded him,

"Obito, your answer was way too simple."

"Alright, alright."

Seeing the class getting rowdy, Kaoru gestured for them to settle down and smoothed things over.

"Obito's answer wasn't wrong. The sharpness of a shuriken is indeed a factor in its lethality."

"But, does anyone know the complete answer?"

The classroom fell into silence.

Scanning the students, Kaoru's gaze landed on Veigar, who had been paying close attention.

"Veigar, do you know?"

Standing up, Veigar responded,

"Apart from sharpness, a shuriken's lethality also depends on the user's strength, throwing technique, and the location where it strikes the enemy."

Clap, clap, clap…

Kaoru led the class in applause.

"Veigar answered correctly. I hope everyone learns from him."

"You may sit down."

Just then, the bell rang, signaling the end of the lesson.

Kaoru concluded,

"That's all for this morning's class."

"This afternoon, we'll have shuriken-throwing practice. Be sure to meet at the training field—don't be late!"

"Class dismissed."
