The Path Chosen

Liam's fingers tapped against the table, the rhythmic sound filling the silent room. His mind was torn between two choices.

Vance, with his smooth words and undeniable logic, represented power, opportunity, and a future filled with influence. But there was also danger in that path—being used, manipulated, and discarded when no longer valuable.

Iris, on the other hand, had no grand promises—only genuine concern. She had been by his side since before everything changed. She wasn't offering power, but trust.

"Power or trust?"

Liam exhaled.

Finally, he made his choice.

"I…" He met Vance's gaze. "I appreciate the offer, but I can't accept it. Not yet."

Vance's smirk twitched, but he gave a slow nod. "Cautious. I respect that."

Iris let out a relieved sigh, her shoulders relaxing. "Good. Then let's get out of here."

Vance leaned back in his chair. "You're making a mistake, Liam. Power won't wait for you to be ready."

Liam didn't respond. He simply stood and followed Iris out the door.

A City Divided

Ardentia's streets bustled with a mix of tension and unease. Ever since the monster attack, the city had changed. The people whispered in alleyways, markets were less crowded, and patrols had doubled.

Liam and Iris walked in silence, their boots clicking against the cobblestone.

"So what now?" Liam finally asked.

Iris hesitated. "You need training. Real training. You barely controlled that ability back there."

Liam looked down at his hand. The Brush of the Architect was still secured at his belt, its ink-like glow dim. His power felt untamed—raw potential, but nothing more.

"Where do we even start?" Liam muttered.

Iris glanced around before lowering her voice. "There's someone who might help. But… we'll have to leave Ardentia to find him."

Liam stopped walking. "Leave? Why?"

Iris's eyes darkened. "Because you're being watched."

Liam's blood ran cold.

He turned his head slightly—and sure enough, he spotted them. Figures in dark cloaks, linger just at the edge of his vision.

Watching.

Waiting.

"Vance?" Liam whispered.

Iris shook her head. "No. Someone worse."

The air felt heavier.

Liam clenched his fists.

He had made his choice. But now… it seemed like the city had already made its choice about him.

And it wasn't going to let him go easily.
