An Obedient Wife?

I stopped and stared into her eyes, lost when she patted my back.

"Why do you look so surprised? Were you planning to stay as an obedient wife?" as much as i was surprised, her question stabbed my chest and i struggled for words when the door creaked behind me.

I turned to see my mother walking in. She passed a short glance at the black dresses on the table before meeting my eyes again.

"Agatha is right, Evra. you are getting married to the king of vampires. Are you planning to live as an obedient wife there?" There was amusement in her voice as if she felt I was a fool.

"You have gotten a chance, none of us could ever fathom." She walked closer and placed her hands on my shoulder. Her slender hands had never felt this heavier before.

"I always wondered why Caslan was so determined to teach you fighting techniques. Why did he train you to throw daggers and wield a sword? Women did not go for war. They stay at home and take care of their children.

A few unlucky people like me lose their husband and run their family but our main objective was to take care of our family and serve our husbands. But you.. You have been taught differently.

I have always hated your guts to stand in front of me, in front of the empire and speak freely. That is not how women live but my strong belief that everything happens with the will of god was proven again." her eyes sparkled like spring water and the smile on her face looked ethereal when she stated at me with glimmer of hope,

"You, my child.. Is the will of god! You were made strong because god knew that you would get the chance to marry the king of vampires.

You will be the closest person to him. And as much as i am abhorred that you would share the bed with him, you would have the chance to stab him when he would be in deep sleep.'' I shook for a second.

Did she not know that vampires could heal in seconds. They could not be wounded or harmed. That was the only reason we could not win against them.

"I know it is hard. But everything has weaknesses. You have to go there and find that weakness of the vampires. Our ancestors said it was silver that could kill them. But that theory had already proven wrong.

So, go and find the truth this time. Find a way to kill vampire Evra, that is your responsibility toward your men." her lithe fingers moved from my shoulders to my face.

She ran a finger in my curly hair and slowly to my cheeks and chin.

"You are a beautiful woman. You have grown up with a wild charm that men desire. Go and entangle him in your beauty. He already looked enamored by you.

Whisper those sweet words in his ears until you gain his trust. Looking for information, I am sure they could not be on guard for forever. You will find a way to their weakness and inform us how we can kill them.

As long as you will find a way, we will send someone to protect you before the war starts." as if she felt the hesitation in my eyes when her grip on my chin tightened and I flinched.

Her eyes went so cold that I knew nothing good was going to come. Had I disappointed her with my reaction? I did not know how my face looked but I was sure she did not like it.

"It is not only about our empire, Evra. It is about the future of mankind. It is about all the kingdoms." she repeated when i finally took a deep breath and nodded.

"I understand mother." she raised a brow and then laughed.

"I am afraid, you do not understand it yet, my daughter.'' She held my hands and dragged me out of my room, toward the stairs and she kept dragging me like a child dragging her broken toy until we reached the roof of the palace.

The palace was the highest building in the kingdom. From there, we can see far and wide to the wall and beyond it.

The stained red flag of the other empire was still dancing on their palace.

"They all were killed but that was not the end. The vampires took their dead bodies and turned them. Now they all are living the curse they abhorred.

The vampires are taking our villages, towns and cities not to increase power but to feed on us. Draining our blood and then cursing us with the same fate. Do you want me and your brother to be undead one day too?" I shook my head hard. Only then did she let my hands go.

"You can not escape future Evra, either you will kill them or we will be their prey. The choice lies in your hands but remember…" she met my gaze and it left dread in my heart, "if you ever chose them, i will be the first to stab you in your heart."

She patted my cheeks with her cold hands.

"In the next three days, you are going to learn a new code language so that you can contact us and spill the secrets and Damon is going to train you again. Things that you did not learn so far, you're going to learn each of them.

You are not going to marry a prince, you are going for war and I will make sure that you win it for yourself and for us."
