WATCHFUL AND SILENT, Render stood on the shores before the waterfall. Seabee circled and offered an extra set of security. Render looked for any dangers to the next king. He also kept his gaze off his firefly. If he was going to keep his promise to Daris, he needed to stop staring at the monk.
Easier said than done.
Toren showed Daris different stones and plants. Seabee dipped into the trees and then brought a small tolu lizard to the pair.
They were amusing Daris and protecting him. They said they would, and he was honoring his promise. His fire crackled happily.
“To keep your fire oath to the queen, you may say you are my teacher, but you are my guard.” Daris chuckled as he strolled up to him, holding the lizard in his blue tentacle.
“Let’s not be anything right now,” Toren announced as he removed the rope on his robe. “Let’s not be teachers or guards or monks.” Toren tossed off his boots. “Let’s go swimming and forget about life for a while.”
