Chapter 11: It's for the best.

STANDING IN THE library, Render was pleased with how the morning was going. Yes, Daris was sitting at the table, ignoring him, but that was fine with him. All morning, Render waited for the next king to say something about what they’d done in his bed.

But he didn’t.

So maybe they wouldn’t get caught. Thank the Lord and Lady of Light.

“During the war with the Valutas, many warriors—”

“I want to see something.” Daris cut him off, and Render looked up.

“What do you want to see, my liege?” Toren set his book aside and came to stand next to the table.

“Something.” Daris waved to the shelves. “I do not want to read today.”

“You do not want to read today,” Render said slowly.

“Thank you, Warrior Obvious, for repeating my sentence.”

“I have an idea.” Toren grinned. “On the queen’s land is a waterfall. Do you want to see it?”

“I would.”
