AS THEY STROLLED past another bubbling fountain, Nigel tipped his head and regarded the king.

“Stories of the past are essential to the court because history helps us to understand our mistakes,” Fenton murmured. “It is our goal to keep doing better. Improvement and growth are vital.”

“I agree, mate.” Nigel nodded. “Learning from the past is important.”

“This is the story of Grand Warrior Nightmensotom.”

“Oh?” Nigel’s eyebrows lifted, a flicker of surprise.

“Warrior Nightmen was a celebrated teacher who taught many. His fighting skills were unmatched.”

“Right,” Nigel agreed, a family pride swelling in his chest.

“But one day, Nightmen became sad that he did not reproduce. He had taught many to battle the croow and win their offspring, but regrettably, he could not do it himself.”

“Oi, tosh. He could’ve if he wanted.” Nigel grumbled, his tentacles tensing, as they rounded a corner toward a row of neatly trimmed bushes.
