Chapter 3: Into the Depths

The clang of metal echoed through the cave as Kiyoshi swung his pickaxe into the stone wall. Bits of copper ore clattered to the ground, glinting in the flickering torchlight.

"Damn, this is really tough compared to just playing the game," he muttered, wiping sweat from his brow.

His arms ached, each swing sending shocks through his muscles. Unlike clicking a mouse, mining in real life—**even in this game-like world—**was grueling. Every vein of ore felt like a small victory, and he was determined to stockpile copper, iron, and silver before heading back.

"I need to find a Celestial Mirror so I can teleport back to base," he said to himself, adjusting the torch in his left hand as he ventured deeper.

The walls grew damp, the air colder. Shadows danced with every step, but fear and curiosity drove him onward. Rounding a bend, his torchlight revealed an odd sight—a structure carved into the cave wall.

"A wooden house...?"

Built into the rock, a small, abandoned house stood silent, half‑covered in cobwebs and dust. The door hung slightly ajar, creaking as Kiyoshi pushed it open. Inside, broken chandeliers swayed gently overhead, and splintered furniture lay scattered.

In the center of the room stood a single chest.

"I hope there's some accessories in here..." he said, kneeling before it.

He opened the chest.

Inside, he found ropes, torches, a Return potion, and—his eyes lit up—a Vitalis Band.

"Nice! A Vitalis Band—I can heal quickly now!"

Grinning, he slid the band onto his wrist, feeling a subtle warmth pulse through him.

"Good. Let's explore more."

Leaving the house behind, Kiyoshi continued deeper into the cave, mining ore along the way. The silence was unnerving, broken only by his pickaxe and the occasional drip of water.

Eventually, he stumbled upon another chest resting alone on a small ledge.

"Another chest," he said with anticipation, stepping closer. "Hope this one's better."

Without hesitation, he crouched down and opened it.

Click.

A loud grinding sound echoed overhead.

"Wait, what—?"

His eyes darted upward.

A massive boulder detached from the ceiling, plummeting straight toward him.
