Captain Zara "Stormblade" had faced countless battles aboard her feared ship, The Tempest, but nothing prepared her for the day she fished Dude out of the ocean.
"What idiot gets thrown overboard in the middle of the ocean?" she snapped, glaring at the dripping mercenary hauled onto her deck.
Dude grinned shamelessly, water streaming from his hair. "The charming kind?"
She scowled fiercely, yet couldn't help but notice the impressive muscles beneath his soaking clothes. "Throw him back," she muttered half-heartedly.
"Wait," Dude pleaded playfully, "I'm useful! At least let me dry off before you kill me."
Reluctantly amused, Zara waved her hand. "Fine. But one wrong move, and you're shark food."
Days passed, and Dude proved surprisingly useful—and infuriatingly charming. He quickly became a favorite among the crew, winning bets, cracking jokes, and somehow managing to drive Zara to distraction with his relentless teasing.
"Captain," he drawled one evening, leaning casually against the mast, "ever considered piracy might suit me?"
Zara snorted, unable to hide her smile. "Too reckless and annoying."
He flashed a grin. "Admit it—you'd miss me if I jumped ship."
Before she could retort, cannon fire exploded nearby—their rival pirate ship, The Kraken's Fury, was upon them.
Chaos erupted, swords clashing, pistols firing, and smoke choking the air. Zara fought fiercely, realizing quickly that Dude matched her every move effortlessly. They fought back-to-back, bantering even as they dispatched enemies.
"First time I've fought beside a woman who didn't try to stab me," Dude quipped.
"Night's young," Zara shot back, kicking an attacker overboard.
When the battle ended, victorious yet exhausted, they exchanged a heated glance—dangerous, thrilling, and full of promise.
Later, alone in her cabin, Zara couldn't deny the fire between them any longer. When Dude appeared at her door, eyes blazing with hunger, she pulled him inside without hesitation.
Their kisses were fierce, passionate, filled with unspoken tension finally unleashed. Zara's heart raced as Dude explored her body, every touch branding her skin, every whispered word melting away her defenses.
As waves rocked The Tempest gently, Zara knew her heart was forever lost to the mercenary she'd plucked from the sea—and she wouldn't have it any other way.
