Chapter 8: Where the sun doesn't shine

As Xiao Ting stomped back into the house, she froze.

There he was, Chase Chen, lounging comfortably on her couch like he owned the place.

The moment he spotted her, he sprang to his feet with an easy grin. "Hi, I'm Chase Chen."

She bored holes into him with a glare sharp enough to cut steel. "I don't remember asking," she snapped.

His grin only widened, and with a little shrug, he dropped his outstretched hand. "Well, no need to be hostile. We'll be living together for a while."

"Do I look like I want to live with you?" Her tone was icy as she pointed toward the door. "If you don't get out of my house this instant, I'll call the cops. You're making me uncomfortable."

Chase straightened his posture, slipping his hands into his pockets as he took slow, deliberate steps toward her. "How so?"

Her eyes narrowed, but her feet instinctively stepped back.

"Does your stomach flip as I take these tentative steps closer?" he asked, his voice low and teasing.

Her back hit the wall, and he leaned in slightly, his dark eyes locking onto hers. "Does your heart flutter when I get this close?"

Her pulse quickened, but not in the way he imagined.

"What's making you uncomfortable, Xiao Ting?"

She didn't answer with words. Instead, her knee shot up, landing squarely in his most vulnerable area.

Chase let out a strangled cry, doubling over and clutching his stomach. "Oh my God."

She stood over him, arms crossed and eyes blazing. "You. You're what's making me uncomfortable. Stay the hell away from me."
