Chapter 1

My best friend asked me to go snorkeling with her during our vacation.

We encountered a mesmerizing school of fish and captured some stunning photos. Afterward, the scuba diving instructor offered to take my friend on a private deep-sea dive.

I advised her against going.

After being turned down, the instructor took someone else instead. They ended up discovering an endangered species protected by the government and each received a million-dollar reward.

When my friend found out, she went berserk and stabbed me to death with a knife.

"You blocked my path to fortune, you deserve to die!"

I opened my eyes again, and there she was, asking me shyly, "What do you think, should I go deep diving with him?"

Hearing Estrella's voice, I immediately shuddered.

In my memory, I had died an agonizing death.

I had happily shown her the new matching water bottles I bought for us, but she snatched it away and violently smashed it against my head.

"It's all your fault. If you hadn't stopped me from going deep diving with the instructor, I would be the one with a million dollars now."

"If it weren't for you, I would've paid off my online loans by now. Give me back my money, or I'll kill you!"

Estrella was blinded by rage, completely unaware that the deep diving instructor posted at least two Instagram stories every month about discovering endangered species and receiving million-dollar rewards.

His endangered species were so numerous he could practically open a zoo.

However, she wouldn't listen to reason, stabbing me over and over like a madwoman.

"Callie?"

My friend's call brought me back to reality.

I rubbed the goosebumps on my arms, realizing that I had indeed been reborn.

Looking at my friend's shy yet longing face, I spoke coldly.

"You're an adult. Make your own decisions. Why are you asking me?"

Since she wanted to chase after small gains and thrills so eagerly.

I certainly had no reason to stop her.In the previous life, Estrella asked me the same question - whether I wanted to go with the instructor.

It was the deep sea, and we couldn't even swim. If someone took off their oxygen mask and threatened you, there was nothing you could do. I sensed danger and forcefully pulled Estrella away.

In the end, the instructor took another girl from our group deep diving.

That night, we happened to encounter that girl again, being wheeled out of the hospital with a vacant stare, police officers taking statements by her side.

It was clearly because of my intervention that Estrella had avoided disaster.

But she quickly forgot about that, only remembering that she missed out on a million-dollar prize, and even blamed me for it.

This time around, without my interference.

Estrella strapped on the oxygen tank the instructor handed her, pouting and huffing in dissatisfaction.

"Callie, you're just jealous because the instructor only called me and not you, aren't you?"

Then, with a knowing look, she said, "Why don't you come with us? The other instructor can take you."

I shook my head and waved off the instructor walking towards me, indicating I wasn't interested.

Estrella scoffed, "You're really laying it on thick, aren't you? Acting like you need to be begged before you'll agree?"Soren raised an eyebrow. "Our deep diving studio has been running for years without any issues."

"It's just that the competition is fierce nowadays. We're trying to attract more customers by shooting more videos, which is why we're inviting beautiful ladies for free deep diving sessions."

Hearing this, Estrella proudly puffed out her chest and unceremoniously strapped the oxygen tank onto my back.

"Don't be so fussy. If it weren't for my connections, you'd have to shell out a couple grand more to even try this."

But I knew it was just because she was scared and wanted me there for moral support. I let out a cold laugh.

"No need. Just give me back my phone. I'll take a cab back to the hotel and wait for you there."

Estrella's face clouded with annoyance as she snapped, "How should I know where your phone is?"

I rolled my eyes, stepped forward, and reached into her waterproof bag to retrieve my phone without hesitation.

Estrella's expression soured, but she didn't say anything more.

Suddenly, Soren's hand shot out.

With a loud "clunk," my phone was knocked into the ocean.

"What the hell is wrong with you?!" I looked up in disbelief.
