Lost in Tomorrow

[Chapter 21]

The silence in the city was suffocating. Joon walked through the empty streets, the neon lights flickering above him like ghosts of a world long past. His mind raced with questions—about the past, about the future, and about the truth hidden in the cracks of this lifeless civilization. The people here were alive, but only in the biological sense. Their souls had been drained by the very technology they worshipped.

"Sohyun... where are you now?" Joon whispered, gripping the pendant she had given him. The thought of losing another friend made his chest tighten. First Haneul, and now Sohyun was missing. He couldn't afford to lose anyone else.

A gust of wind swept through the alley, carrying the faint hum of electricity. Something was off. Joon stopped walking, his senses sharpening. Someone was watching him.

His ability kicked in instinctively. A flurry of thoughts hit him all at once.

"Wait for the signal. The professor wants him alive."

Joon's pulse quickened. There were at least three people nearby, hiding in the shadows. He turned slowly, scanning the dark alleyways. The mind-reading ability gave him an advantage, but it also meant he was never alone in his own head. Too many voices, too many emotions.

Then, a voice rang directly inside his mind.

"You should have stayed hidden, Joon."

Before he could react, a force slammed into his chest, sending him flying backward. He crashed against a metal dumpster, gasping for air. The attack wasn't physical—it was telekinetic.

Joon coughed, struggling to stand. His vision blurred as he saw a figure step out from the shadows. A tall man, dressed in a sleek black coat, his eyes glowing with an eerie blue light.

"Who the hell are you?" Joon gritted out.

The man smirked. "The one who's been waiting for you."

Joon braced himself. The rumors had been true. The other traveler from the past—the telekinetic—was real. And he had just made his move
