Despair

Deep inside a forest, in a damp dark cave, there lay a tiny creature with a deep frown on its small green face.

Just nearby, looking like an older version of that same tiny creature, stood a 3-foot-tall humanoid creature wearing a tattered robe and a face full of wrinkles, observing the tiny green creature with an annoyed expression.

'Argh! This little guy is taking his own sweet time… wake up already! .' Thought the older creature looking at the green infant.

After a few minutes of struggle, the tiny creature finally relaxed its expression and slowly opened its small eyes.

The first thing that Sam noticed after waking up was the ugly face of a green-skinned creature staring at him with impatience evident on his face.

Sam tried to move away from the green creature out of instinct but then realised that his body felt unusually heavy.

Sam noticed that he had to put in a lot of effort just to make small movements with his limbs. He tried to make a fist and was only able to succeed after putting in an unreasonable amount of effort.

But before Sam could understand what was going on he was picked up by the ugly creature before he started walking after mumbling something under its breath.

While in the arms of the old creature, Sam tried to make the head and tail of his situation.

'Ah! Yes, I got hit by a truck on my way to the bookstore.' Sam recalled.

'I died? But where am I now? No Way! Could this be… a reincarnation? To think that I would be able to experience it, But where am I? And why are my hands green?' Sam asked these questions after staring at his hand in confusion.

Then, as if waiting for this exact moment a robotic voice sounded in his mind-

[Initiating the system]

[Status Screen Unlocked]

'Woah! What was that?' Sam thought.

It took him less than a fraction of a second to realise what was going on. It was the cheat called "system" possessed by most of the reincarnated protagonists of the novels that he read and loved so much.

Sam thought that it was too good to be true, therefore to check his theory and to stop his doubts about all of this being a crazy dream, he voiced the familiar command in his mind.

'Status'

The command prompted the following screen to appear before him-

Sam was horrified, and when he was having a hard time accepting reality, the old creature carrying Sam stopped walking and then placed Sam with other green-skinned creatures similar to him in a rough manner.

After observing all the energetic tiny creatures around him for a while, he woke up from his shock and cursed his fate.

'WHY AM I A GOBLIN?!'
