Chapter 9: The Fire Between Us
Tobi sat on the edge of his bed, still wrapped in nothing but a towel, his skin still damp from the shower. His phone rested in his palm, but his grip on it was tight. He wasn't even looking at the screen anymore.
He was pissed.
Chike, on the other hand, acted like nothing had happened. He was lying on his bed, scrolling through his phone, stretching like he hadn't just walked in on Tobi naked.
Tobi clenched his jaw. "You're really not going to say anything?"
Chike didn't look up. "About what?"
Tobi's patience snapped. "Are you joking? You barged into the bathroom, saw me stark naked, and now you're just lying there like nothing happened?"
Chike smirked, still not looking up. "Guy, abeg relax. I said it was a mistake."
Tobi scoffed. "A mistake? You stood there staring like your life depended on it!"
Chike finally looked at him, amusement flickering in his eyes. "Ah, no vex. Na because you too fine."
Tobi's stomach flipped—but not in a good way. He didn't know what irritated him more—the fact that Chike had seen everything or the fact that he was joking about it like it was nothing.
He stood abruptly, the towel shifting dangerously around his waist. "You're an idiot."
Chike's smirk widened. "I no go deny."
Tobi glared at him, his hands clenching into fists. "Do you know how uncomfortable that was? You're my roommate, Chike! You don't just walk in on someone like that!"
Chike sat up now, stretching lazily. "Omo, no be say I never see naked man before."
"That's not the point!" Tobi snapped. "You—" He stopped himself, chest rising and falling with deep, frustrated breaths.
Chike tilted his head, finally meeting his gaze properly. There was something in his eyes now. Something Tobi didn't understand.
Tobi exhaled sharply. "Forget it."
He turned to grab his clothes, still in the towel, but he could feel Chike's gaze on him.
His whole body tensed.
Why was Chike still looking at him?
"Are you going to stare at me all night?" Tobi muttered.
Chike chuckled. "Maybe."
Tobi's head snapped up. What. The. Hell?
Chike was smirking again, his eyes glinting with something unreadable. But before Tobi could react, Chike shrugged and lay back down.
"Relax," he said casually. "I no dey reason am like that."
Tobi clenched his jaw. So why did it feel like a lie?
Without another word, he grabbed his clothes and stormed back into the bathroom, slamming the door shut behind him.
His heart was pounding. His skin was burning.
And he hated that he didn't know why.
