Chapter 10: Colliding with a Demon

Hearing this, Tanjiro carefully examined the bamboo basket before saying, "Senpai, please wait!"

After speaking, Tanjiro began to modify the bamboo basket.

Haru silently watched Tanjiro. Naturally, he didn't know how to do such manual work, as he wasn't from that era.

After the modification, the bamboo basket's airtightness improved significantly, and the sunlight could hardly penetrate. When the time came, they could simply cover it with a cloth from the outside.

Tanjiro took the modified bamboo basket and walked into the cave. After placing Nezuko inside, Haru, Tanjiro, and Nezuko—two humans and one demon—set off once again toward Mount Sagiri.

Night

Haru, Tanjiro, and Nezuko, who could now move freely inside the bamboo basket, arrived at the outside of a temple.

"Senpai, there's a temple, and I can see lights. There should be someone inside. Let's go check it out!" Tanjiro said to Haru.

Haru had no objections. After all, it was late, and it was a good place to rest.

"Mm," Haru nodded and said, "Let's go in and take a look."

As soon as Haru finished speaking, Tanjiro suddenly changed his expression and said in fear, "I smell blood! The mountain path is treacherous, someone must be injured!"

After saying that, the kind-hearted Tanjiro immediately grabbed Nezuko and ran toward the temple.

Haru had no time to stop him and had to follow.

Haru's nose wasn't as sensitive as Tanjiro's, so he didn't immediately smell the blood.

By the time Haru reached the temple entrance, he vaguely smelled the blood.

At that moment, Tanjiro was already at the door and pushed it open, calling out, "Is anyone inside alright?"

But the next moment, Tanjiro froze in place, his face turning pale.

Haru, who was a step behind, arrived by Tanjiro's side and looked inside the temple, finally seeing a scene that shocked him as well.

Inside the temple, there were several human corpses, all of which had been gnawed on. The demon that had eaten the bodies was crouching in front of one of the corpses, making chewing sounds.

Haru's expression became extremely serious, and he took a combat stance, drawing his sword.

"Take Nezuko and go quickly!" Haru urgently ordered Tanjiro.

Tanjiro, clearly frightened, didn't hear Haru's words and remained frozen in place, unresponsive.

"What's going on here?! Hey! This is my territory!" The demon, who had been eating the humans, sensed Haru and Tanjiro's presence. Annoyed, it stood up and turned around.

"This unusual scent... Are you humans?" the demon muttered to itself.

As soon as the words were out, the demon rushed toward Haru.

"So fast!" Haru thought in shock. Unable to dodge the attack, he instinctively took a defensive posture.

In an instant, Haru was sent flying. In mid-air, he swung his sword toward the demon's neck.

The demon was cut by Haru's sword, then performed a backflip to distance itself from him.

Haru stumbled but barely regained his balance. Once steady, he didn't rush to attack or immediately activate his Demon God Transformation.

The side effects of the Demon God Transformation were too torturous; Haru didn't want to endure that unpleasant sensation.
