Chapter 29: Haru's Strength and Mockery

Tanjiro watched as Haru left him behind and went to talk to the little girl, his face immediately darkening. Just a moment ago, Haru had said that he liked someone, but now, wasn't this more about Haru liking her instead?

Although Tanjiro was somewhat dissatisfied, he decided not to interrupt Haru's flirting.

After all, Tanjiro thought, Haru was a few years older than him, and it was normal for someone at that age to be the one to pursue a girl. As they grew older, they would be able to marry.

Meanwhile, Haru's approach to the little girl immediately drew the attention of the other boys around them. His actions instantly made him the number one target for most of the young men there.

"I saw her first! Don't even think about getting any ideas!" A boy couldn't hold back and jumped out, claiming his ownership of the girl and threatening Haru.

Haru turned to him and made a gesture to silence him. In the blink of an eye, Haru disappeared from in front of the little girl and reappeared right in front of the boy who had threatened him.

Haru's sword was drawn, and the sharp blade was now pressed against the boy's neck.

The boy immediately became terrified, his fear so overwhelming that he wet himself.

Urine leaked through his pants and dripped onto the ground.

Haru's swift move made everyone realize his power, and the previously hostile gazes were now filled with fear.

"You didn't even have time to draw your blade, and you want to kill me?" Haru spoke calmly to the boy.

"Really wet yourself, huh? I suggest you go home and find your mommy!" Haru added with a mocking tone.

The boy, facing Haru's mockery, was filled with both anger and helplessness. The sword was already at his neck, and he had no chance to even argue back, especially since Haru was right—he had wet himself.

Upon hearing Haru's mockery, the others couldn't help but snicker at the boy.

The laughter from the crowd made the boy lose all dignity, and unable to bear the humiliation any longer, he turned and ran down the mountain.

Haru had no intention of pursuing him. He shook his head in slight disappointment, then sheathed his sword.

Tanjiro had witnessed everything and could tell from Haru's actions that Haru had grown even stronger than he was half a year ago.

"Haru-senpai, don't you think it was a little unfriendly to scare him off like that?" Tanjiro thought Haru's words had gone a bit too far, so he gently reminded him, hoping Haru would be a bit more friendly toward the others.

Haru didn't think there was anything wrong with his actions. He replied, "It's better he ran. Otherwise, he'd end up getting eaten by demons, which would be worse!"

"Seriously, who raised such a brave disciple, coming to the selection with such weak skills? He really doesn't fear death!" Haru couldn't help but criticize.

Saying that, Haru returned to the little girl's side.

The girl remained as expressionless as ever, seeming unaffected by Haru's earlier display.

Haru was certain that his dramatic display had completely raised his stature. To have it fail to impress this girl was truly unusual.

There were only two possible explanations for this: either the girl was stronger than him, and his actions hadn't fazed her at all, or she was simply lacking in common sense.
