"Little miss, have you thought about it? Would you like to team up with us?" Haru asked again.
At this point, the little girl finally looked at Haru, then pulled a coin from her clothes, tossing it into the air before catching it again.
She looked at the coin, then turned to Haru and said, "Sorry, my master told me to rely on myself."
After saying that, she returned to her dazed expression.
Seeing the girl's rejection, Haru didn't press further. It was his first time encountering such an eccentric personality. He wondered if this girl had autism.
"Let's go, Tanjiro. The girl doesn't want to. From now on, don't ask me to do the flirting for you," Haru said, finding an excuse to ease the awkwardness of being rejected.
Tanjiro immediately jumped on Haru, grabbed him by the neck, and protested, "Haru-senpai, it was you who approached her first! How is this my fault? You shouldn't be blaming me for this!"
"I got it! Tanjiro, let go, please!" Haru gasped, struggling to breathe as Tanjiro's grip was quite strong after two years of training. If Haru wasn't holding back, Tanjiro would've already been thrown to the ground. After all, they were both disciples, and Haru still wanted to give Tanjiro some face.
As Haru and Tanjiro were messing around, two little girls in purple kimonos with large eyes appeared holding lanterns. Their hair was adorned with purple wisteria flowers.
Seeing the girls, Tanjiro released Haru and jumped off of him.
Haru quickly straightened his clothes, which had been wrinkled by Tanjiro, then looked at the two little girls.
The most striking feature was, of course, the girls' big eyes and their exceptionally cute faces.
"Thank you all for coming to participate in the final selection of the Demon Slayer Corps tonight."
"In this Mount Fujikasane, demons captured by demon hunters are kept, but they can't escape."
"Because from the foothills to the middle of the mountain, purple wisteria flowers bloom all year round, and the toxins on the wisteria flowers can kill those demons."
"The large number of wisteria flowers also makes the air in Mount Fujikasane carry a faint toxicity."
"However, don't worry. As long as you don't consume the wisteria flowers or their fruit, the toxins in the air won't affect humans."
"But ahead, there are no more wisteria flowers, and demons will appear."
"Survive for seven days in there, and you'll have passed the final selection."
"Now, please proceed."
The two little girls spoke to all the participants in the selection, each taking turns.
Their delicate voices made Haru smile wickedly, and he even licked his lips. However, since he was wearing the disaster mask, no one saw his slightly eerie expression.
(T/N: wtf?)
Once the little girls finished their instructions, everyone headed deeper into Mount Fujikasane, walking into the darkness where there were no more wisteria flowers.
"Tanjiro, let's go," Haru said to Tanjiro.
Tanjiro nodded, and together they stepped into the darkness of Mount Fujikasane.
After everyone had entered the selection area, several masked members of the Demon Slayer Corps blocked the only path down the mountain.
The atmosphere clearly indicated that there would be no turning back.
