### Chapter 20: The Supreme Purity Seal

The iron seal appeared unremarkable, its surface mottled with rust that obscured the ancient seal script beneath. Weighing about a kilogram in his palm, Xu Yang mused, "This could crack walnuts nicely."

Fetching a fruit knife from the kitchen, he recalled the scripture's instructions for refining magical implements - blood consecration and sustained spiritual nurturing. Yet hesitation stayed his hand.

"Self-mutilation? What if I cut too deep? Tetanus?" he muttered, swapping the blade for a sewing needle. Gritting his teeth, he pricked his fingertip, squeezing out a single crimson drop onto the seal.

*Hum!*

The blackened relic shuddered, levitating as corrosion flaked away like dead skin. Revealed beneath was a jade seal glowing with inner light, precisely eight centimeters square.

*Ding!*

[Female Ghost Frightened. Virtue Points +100]

The scarlet apparition materialized in the doorway, crimson characters blazing: [An Heavenly Master's Seal?]

Checking his interface:

[Treasure: Supreme Purity Seal (Dao Artifact)]

Xu Yang's pulse quickened. According to scripture, this ranked among the mightiest mortal-world artifacts. "Not exactly," he replied. "It's called the Supreme Purity Seal. Familiar?"

The ghost shook her head, writing: [Unknown. Cease wielding it here - its aura discomforts me.]

"My house, my rules," Xu Yang retorted.

Blackened nails elongated as the specter slashed claw-marks through the air. Snatching back the seal, Xu Yang grumbled, "Must you always resort to threats? I'm reasonable with polite requests."

*Heh.*

The ghost's derisive chuckle echoed before she dissolved into mist.

Xu Yang's eyebrows rose. Verbal communication progress!

Research revealed the seal's pedigree - part of a pair created by Celestial Master Xu Xun. While the Supreme Purity Seal authenticated documents, its counterpart, the Dharma Lord Seal, commanded spirits. Both were heirlooms comparable to Dragon-Tiger Mountain's sacred sigils.

Online searches also uncovered the schism between Jingming Dao and Lüshan Dao sects. Could Grandfather's seclusion relate to sect conflicts?

The scripture's talisman section detailed categories from wealth charms to ghost-subjugation seals. Xu Yang compared his inherited "Evil-Dispelling Sigils" to the supreme "Five Thunder Demon-Slaying Talisman" - regrettably beyond his current cultivation.

By 4 AM, exhaustion claimed him.

**Next Morning**

The funeral shop's bell jingled as Ma Long swaggered in. "How's the ghost-seeing?"

"Delusions?" Xu Yang nearly choked on his soybean milk.

"The doc said grief-induced hallucinations," Ma Long continued, eyeing his friend. "You look better though. Night fishing later? I'll bring girls!"

"Pass." Xu Yang scrawled a license plate. "Check this for me - Ning A-K2523."

Ma Long pocketed the note. "Sure, I'll ask my DMV contact... Wait!" He pointed outside. "Isn't that your plate?"

A black Volkswagen parked beside Ma Long's BMW bore the queried numbers.
