Chapter 9

"You today bring me here, probably didn't tell Alaric, right?"

Neve's body tensed.

"You don't dare tell her, because you're not confident who she'd choose between you and me."

"Alaric has always loved me. You think you're avenging him, but he'll only hate you."

"Ten years ago, Alaric didn't choose you, and he won't ten years later either!"

Neve's eyes grew colder. "So noisy."

She manipulated the button in her hand, moving all the metal plates to Vivienne's head.

Speaking without emotion, she said: "Release."

Just as the rope was about to be cut, I shouted loudly: "Don't!"

Neve and Vivienne both turned around.

Vivienne smirked triumphantly, but in Neve's eyes, it was as if a light had shattered.

Vivienne's tone was light and airy: "See, Neve? I was right, wasn't I? Alaric has never forgotten me."

She looked at me expectantly, thinking I would let her down.

Instead, I walked to Neve's side. "If she dies like this, it might be traced back to you. She's not worth it."
