Chapter 42 Girlfriend

Back in high school, Sullivan came from a wealthy family, but he was plain-looking and had a hunched back, earning him the nickname "Camel."

No matter how much he tried to win over the class beauties, they couldn't be bothered with him.

On the other hand, Berloff Reed, despite his average family background, was handsome and a top student, always surrounded by admirers.

This made Sullivan resent Berloff, leading to frequent clashes between them.Years later, Sullivan hadn't changed a bit. He still jumped at any chance to belittle Berloff.

"Haha, Sullivan, Berloff Reed a financial mogul? He got fired, didn't he?"

"Yeah, he's been in Silk City for years and still has no house, no car, and no girlfriend. Pathetic."

Sullivan's two lackeys, Ignatius and Perry, who had been his sidekicks since high school, laughed mockingly. They were as loyal as ever, like lapdogs.

Sullivan waved his hand, smiling slyly. "Come on, guys, don't be so harsh. Berloff Reed has been doing great in Silk City. How could he be so down and out?"

Seeing this, Dunn, Berloff's good friend who had invited him back for the school reunion, couldn't stay silent any longer.

"Sullivan, that's enough from you guys!"

"We were classmates for years. It's too much to target Berloff like this."

Sullivan crossed his arms and snorted, "I'm just reminding Berloff that being handsome and smart in school doesn't matter. In the real world, it's all about family background and personal ability."

"Now, just ask any pretty girl around. Who would still like someone like Berloff Reed, a jobless guy with no house or car?" Ignatius and Perry chimed in.

"Exactly! Look at Sullivan. He owns an import-export company now, lives in a villa in the provincial capital, drives a Mercedes, and even married a beauty queen from the city."

"Right! Compared to Sullivan, Berloff Reed is like a pile of crap. They're not even in the same league."

"The once campus heartthrob Berloff Reed, looking like this now, forget about finding a girlfriend. He should be grateful if any girl even talks to him."

Thud, thud, thud...

Just as Sullivan and his friends were smugly belittling Berloff, a striking figure in red came running over and tightly linked her arm with Berloff's.

"Hmph! Who says no girl wants to talk to Berloff Reed? To me, he's still as handsome and charming as ever. I'd be his girlfriend any day!"

Everyone was stunned. They looked closely and saw that the speaker was none other than the fiery-tempered class beauty, Pepper.

Dressed in a red gown, her figure was stunning as she raised her chin defiantly at Sullivan and his friends.Thud, thud, thud...

No sooner had Pepper finished speaking than the sweet-faced Phoenix jumped in, agreeing, "Well said! Berloff Reed is even more handsome now than before. Who says no girl likes him just because he's temporarily out of work?"

"If he wants, I can buy a house and a car myself to marry him!"

Clap, clap, clap...

Pepper and Phoenix's declarations were like slaps in the face, landing hard on Sullivan and his friends.

"Hmph!"Sullivan's face turned from pale to red as he glared fiercely at Pepper and Little Phoenix.

"You idiots still think you're students? At this point, you're still choosing boyfriends based on looks?"

Pepper sneered dismissively, "I'd rather choose a good-looking guy with no money or power than someone like you, who's ugly and obnoxious. It's none of your business!"

Little Phoenix glared at Sullivan in agreement, "Exactly! Being broke is temporary, but being ugly lasts a lifetime!"

Sullivan's face turned a deep shade of blue with anger, nearly causing him to spit blood in frustration.

"You... You just wait and see!"

Sullivan gritted his teeth, pointed at Pepper and Little Phoenix, and stormed off with his two lackeys.

"Haha!" Berloff Reed laughed heartily. "Pepper, Little Phoenix, thanks for helping me out."

Throughout high school, Berloff had been very close to these two girls. Even after a few years apart and hearing that Berloff hadn't been doing well, these two dear friends still stood up for him, which touched him deeply.Pepper's face blushed slightly as she let go of Berloff's arm. "Why are you being so polite? That annoying camel deserves it. Just because he has a bit of money, he thinks he can show off. I won't put up with him!"

Little Phoenix nodded, "Yeah, Camel was always annoying. Even after all these years, he hasn't changed a bit. He just talks nonsense all day. Don't let it get to you, Berloff."

Hearing this, Berloff felt a warmth in his heart and a calm smile spread across his face.

Before getting the system, as a low-level insurance agent, Berloff would have felt deeply hurt by Sullivan and his gang's humiliation and mockery.

However, now that Berloff Reed was a billionaire, he remained calm in the face of Sullivan and his friends' provocations, treating them like barking mad dogs.

After Sullivan and his crew walked away, Berloff greeted his old classmates at Dunn's invitation.

With the class beauties, Pepper and Phoenix, lightening the mood, Berloff quickly became the center of attention, chatting animatedly with everyone.

This scene made Sullivan's expression darken, his face contorting with displeasure.

Back in high school, Sullivan had been arrogant and domineering, always looking down on others.

Although only a few years had passed since graduation, and many hadn't yet faced the harsh realities of life, they still chose to chat with Berloff, leaving Sullivan and his friends on the sidelines, despite knowing Sullivan had become a wealthy and influential figure with his family's support.

"Damn it!" Sullivan muttered, glaring jealously at Berloff, who was mingling effortlessly. "Just wait until we get to the school reunion. Then you'll see who the real big shot is!"

Everyone then took their seats, starting to eat and drink heartily.

Since they still had to attend the school anniversary later, no one drank alcohol, sticking to soft drinks and casual conversation instead.

Pepper and Phoenix, one on each side, sat next to Berloff, chatting and laughing with him.

This scene made everyone else green with envy. Many of the male classmates had secretly agreed with Sullivan's earlier remarks, feeling schadenfreude over Berloff's supposed downfall.

Yet, despite his apparent misfortune, Berloff still managed to attract the attention of the class beauties, Pepper and Phoenix. It was enough to drive anyone crazy with jealousy.

To be fair, Berloff had grown more handsome and charming over the years he spent in Silk City, a top-tier city.

Despite not wearing any makeup, Berloff Reed's looks were absolutely stunning.

Strangers who saw him might think he was a popular star from an idol drama.

What they didn't know was that Berloff's face had been completely transformed by a miraculous pill given by the system.

The incredible charm he exuded at that moment made both Pepper and Little Phoenix's hearts race uncontrollably.

After having lunch at the Grand Hotel, the group, arm in arm, headed to their nearby high school alma mater.

The school was bustling with activity, with flags waving and drums beating.

Once they were seated at the event, Sullivan's eyes gleamed with a hint of smugness.

"Berloff Reed, just wait. You'll be crying soon enough!"
