The volcanic heat gradually faded as Rei traveled deeper into the Divine Beast Realm. After Lycanroc's evolution, his team had grown significantly stronger, but the dangers of this realm had only begun to reveal themselves.
Before him stretched a massive body of water, its surface unnaturally still, reflecting the sky like an eerie mirror. The air was humid, thick with the scent of algae and something… rotten.
Rei frowned. Something was off.
That's when he saw them.
Bodies.
Trainers, their lifeless forms floating on the water, their clothes drenched in crimson.
Rei crouched low behind a jagged rock formation, scanning the scene. A group of figures moved among the corpses, their dark blue uniforms unmistakable.
Team Aqua.
"What the hell are they doing here?" Rei whispered. Team Aqua was a Hoenn-based organization, obsessed with expanding the ocean. There was no reason for them to be in the Malayu region—unless they were after something huge.
His eyes narrowed. Among the fallen trainers, some bore the insignia of the Pokémon Alliance.
There's a traitor among us.
A sudden splash broke the silence.
A surviving trainer crawled out of the water, gasping for air. Before he could fully rise, a sharp blade of water slashed across his chest, sending him collapsing into the shallow tide.
The attacker stepped forward—a man wearing the same Alliance uniform as the rest of them.
A spy.
Rei gritted his teeth. He recognized that man—Tomas, one of the trainers who had been assigned to explore the realm.
"Why are you doing this?" a wounded trainer on the ground croaked, clutching a bleeding wound on his arm.
Tomas sneered. "You Alliance bastards don't deserve the secrets of this realm. Team Aqua will be the ones to claim the power here."
With a flick of his wrist, Tomas released his Pokémon—a Sharpedo and a Crawdaunt.
"Kill the rest of them."
The surviving trainers scrambled to defend themselves. One released a Lanturn, sending bolts of electricity crackling through the water, while another commanded a Breloom, fists glowing with fighting energy.
Rei didn't hesitate.
"Staraptor, take the sky! Lycanroc, cover me!"
Sharpedo lunged forward, its fangs glowing with energy. Before it could reach its target, Staraptor intercepted, striking with a devastating Close Combat that sent the shark Pokémon crashing into the rocks.
"Lycanroc, Earth Fire!"
Flames erupted from Lycanroc's claws as it slammed into Crawdaunt with a blazing Fire Fang. The crustacean screeched, struggling against the intense heat.
The battle was pure chaos.
Water and fire clashed, lightning arced across the battlefield, and the ground trembled under the force of the conflict. The remaining trainers rallied together, pushing back against the Aqua operatives with everything they had.
One by one, the enemy Pokémon fell.
But Tomas wasn't done.
With a crazed grin, he pulled a strange device from his coat—a glass tube filled with swirling golden liquid. He injected himself with the liquid
"You Alliance fools don't understand what we're after. This isn't about treasure… this is about divine DNA."
Rei's eyes widened.
Divine DNA?
Tomas laughed. "We've found remnants of the old gods—their very essence! And with it, we'll create new legends, ones that obey only us!"
Rei's eyes grew dangerous.
If Team Aqua was trying to clone legendary Pokémon, the entire world could be in danger.
"Not on my watch," Rei growled. "Staraptor, take him down!"
Staraptor dived, claws glowing with energy. In one swift strike, Tomas who was about to transform into a monster was quickly killed.
The battle was over.
Rei and the remaining trainers stood victorious. But their mission wasn't finished yet.
He picked up the device and turned to the others.
"We need to report this to the Alliance. Now."
They had uncovered a terrifying secret—one that could shake the world of Pokémon to its core.
